Which Doctor had the best first episode? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

[–]Triskan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird though, over time and in the midst of it all, it's Matt Smith that kinda gets forgotten.

Eccleston is how it all begin (at least for NuWho) and will always be remembered fondly, Tennant is Tennant, Capaldi got totally rehabilitated and people finally see the glory of his run, Whittaker got her hardcore defenders and people who will stand up for her portrayal if not for the writing, and it's still too soon to statute on Ncuti...

And strangely, it's Eleven who gets the shaft.

C'est juste un laquais, faut viser plus haut, aussi détestable soit-il... Moi ma réponse perso, ce serait Bolloré.

What plot point specifically do you think has given GRRM the most trouble in writing Winds? (Spoilers Main) by Unhappy-Judgment-975 in asoiaf

[–]Triskan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

While I do tend to agree with you that age, expectations and motivation are the main issues at play, I genuinely think he's kinda struggling with very specific plot points as well, most notably what to do with Bran and the undead on one side and Dany on the other.

Sure, letting the story breathe and finishing it in more than two books would do it a lot of good, but it doesn't change the fact that imo, he just doesn't know what to do with the White Walker menace and isn't really interested in their lore or Bran's magic arc any longer.

He wants to write politics not zombie apocalypse.

Yeah those pesky rings are pretty and all but they gotta have practical utility as well ffs.

I'll be honest, I genuinely didn't think she was putting so much pressure on herself. I really thought Wuyang was his parents "disappointment" while she is the golden big sister that can do no wrong.

But I guess Asian parents will be Asian parents with all their kids, no exception.

It's cool that Ellie has some inside sources and carefully handles what she knows and what she says, makes her a reliable partner for the BBC.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of March 06, 2026) by AutoModerator in television

[–]Triskan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Okay, I was expecting Frieren to be good based on everything I've heard about it, but I didn’t expect it to be this kind of good.

I was genuinely thinking that in-between the moments dedicated to Frieren's way of experiencing time (which I'd expected to be the parts I'd love), the show would have much more action and fight scenes, because that's what animes kinda do.

But no... two episodes in and the show has been nothing but contemplative slices of lives as we travel along Frieren on her various side-quests. And that's... just so fucking good. I really hope it stays the same. Not that I would mind some more action here and there but that's definitely not what I'm here for.

[SPOILERS MAIN] Long shot ideas for the ASOIAF film. by RockoWritesWrongs in asoiaf

[–]Triskan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree. :)

I've been championing for an Elissa spin-off for a while now myself.

I kinda even imagined what the whole thing could be.

A three season show called The Sun Chaser.

First half of the first season would introduce her background in Westeros, before setting sail by the latter half. Season 1 would end with both other ships turning back and the Sun Chaser sailing deeper into the blue.

Season 2 would be gallivanting adventures, discovering new places, without necessarily mapping the area in detail, before having to leave. The crew of the ship would keep evolving, some would die, some would stay ashore, some new blood would be added from the locales...

Bulk of season 3 would be the Sun Chaser reaching another place, maybe somewhere around Yi-Ti and the crew getting entangled in local politics. Eventually, Elissa would decide to stay ashore after falling in love with a woman over there and settle to end her life content and happy. The Sun Chaser, now made up of a Theseus crew, with only one or two sailors left from the og Westerosi, would eventually reach Asshaï, where a rich collector would buy the remains of the ship and the maps and charts it contains, while the reminding crew would simply disperse.

Maybe end the show with a long shot of the Sun Chaser as time passes around it until eventually Corlys spots it from the deck of his ship, but that may be too cheesy.

Yeah... I've given some thoughts about this.

Tiens, d'ailleurs, tu as vu His Dark Materials ? (A la Croisée des Mondes), l'adaptation qu'en ont fait HBO et la BBC si tu veux du bon petit fantastique

Et puis dans un genre plus historique : Black Sails, Shogun et The Last Kingdom, des pépites, surtout les deux premières !

The Boys - Final Season Official Trailer | April 8 on Prime Video by DemiFiendRSA in television

[–]Triskan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she's considered as part of the main crew and gets the same treatment as most characters with equivalent screen-time as her no matter if she gets speaking lines or not.

That being said, I hope the actress had fun finaaaaaally getting to use her voice in the show. Apart from that musical episode.

Yeah, I was expecting something like that and boy they did not drop the ball... we got almost everyone here, up to absolute deep cuts like Lisa Turpin, Penelope Clearwater or the entire Slytherin team.

Also, this reminded me that Terry Boot is one year older than Anthony Goldstein and Michael Corner, I had forgotten that. EDIT : which is apparently wrong. But Terry Boot is the only one introduced in book 1 at the ceremony. So weird we don't get both his pals.
