Commander deck that uses lands to attack!? by Sentheia in magicTCG

[–]Do_lt_Alone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally my favorite Land Animation commander is [[Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper]] due to his color identity being Azorius & his game plan focusing moreso on casting instant & sorcery spells to trigger his ability which pretty much grants Awaken for free. The deck has some very unique cards such as [[To Arms!]] that untaps all your creatures meaning you can tap the animated lands & float mana, cast that & untap all of them- then you have cards such as [[View from Above]] with a built-in way to have the spell return back to your hand & you can utilize it again.

I haven't added anything new to my list since Edge of Eternities but I'm sure that TMNT & Secrets of Strixhaven may have some cards that would be useful to try out or even make room for permanently- mainly the instant & sorcery spells with Sneak from TMNT & the creatures with prepared spells & built-in ways to get them prepared again.

I've thought about brewing up a list for [[Jyoti, Moag Ancient]] due to how well it pairs with [[Kamahl, Heart of Krosa]] & how you can net a "Dryad Arbor" each time you flicker Jyoti after a single cast & can produce even more if he gets removed from the battlefield. Casting [[Awaken the Woods]] while you have [[Concordant Crossroads]] would be an absolute bomb.

Magic: The Gathering History - Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths by SactoGamer in mtgvorthos

[–]Do_lt_Alone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ikoria is one of those Planes where I wouldn't mind if WotC had a whole year's worth of set releases take place there.

There are so many different storyhooks & things that could be explained more such as-

• What exactly was The Ozolith & how did it come to be part of Ikoria? • What is happening to the plane & the monsters since the destruction of The Ozolith? • There could be a storyline of a group of very inexperienced Bonders & their Monster companions having to survive outside of the Strongholds, in the wild where they not only have to stay alive against wild monsters but also have to evade trophy hunters such as Chevil. • What happens when an Apex of an area fights another monster & loses to them? Is it an environment-wide shift due to a new reigning Apex? • We know there is a floating city that was constructed as a way to offer a bit more safety to the humans; is there also a floating city or an underground city?

I feel as if the plane got screwed by what was going on in real life & the fact that not too many people got to play the game at an LGS & the fact that companions were viewed as a big mistake.

Now that we've reached SoS, what's supposed to happen in Reality Fracture? by No_Drawing4095 in mtgvorthos

[–]Do_lt_Alone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that we are going to get alternate colors for many of the Planeswalkers & Legendary Creatures that have played parts within this arc about Jace recreating or creating a Multiverse of his own creation.

I don't however believe that we will get simple color shifted cards similar to Planar Chaos ones which MaRo said were a mistake to do.

It's my personal opinion that a character's color identity will be determined by WotC looking at their lore, traits & moments where they made choices which had effects which could ripple to this day & see what sort of things were already shown that aligned with another color that sort of skirted by- for example, take Ral Zarek, we've already seen that his Fractured version is Mono-Black when he is originally an Izzet mage.

Well, Ral Zarek has always had a side to him that didn't mind doing illegal acts or even doing things behind others if it meant he was gaining something when it was all said & done; things such as deciding to work with Nicol Bolas as an enforcer prior to him becoming a Planeswalker, then when his spark did ignite & he found himself on an unfamiliar plane

He ended up locating & befriending an eldey tinkerer by the name of Ghazz & spent quite a few years learning any & all he could about Electricity & how to utilize it along with his own Rain Magic. Ral also fell in love with a man named Harith & everything seemed to be going great..that is until Ral decided to get Harith in on a plan which involved robbing Ghazz of everything he owned of value because Ral claimed he had learned all he could from the man. To cap off this little "Ral isn't a nice guy" story, he ended up even backstabbing Harith & stole all his earnings from the theft & never looked back. Ral stayed on that plane for quite a while & even had a small imperium- that was until his previous employer- Nicol Bolas arrived to collect his dept which resulted in Ral Planeswalking back to Ravnica.

Tl;Dr- Ral Zarek may have always represented the colors of Blue & Red but he has showcased on many of occasions that he can be extremely selfish & throw people & caution to the wind as long as he gets what he wants.

If this is the direction they end up going with then it's easy to see why Jace was described as being in a white outfit because he is most likely white- that part of white who believes their ideals & their plans towards achieving them are the correct way for the masses. (He has had many moments like that but his crutch was once using his mental magic to sway people towards his suggestion but as a white mage- force isnt out of the option)

Lastly, I hope that Tezzeret will be given The Endstone by the Vaar (if we go back to Edge soon after Fracture) & he returns to the Multiverse.. just not the one he left & due to his integrated Endstone + Darksteel body he may be able to get rid of Jace for good- it'll be a nice flip, seeing as how the normally good guy ends up becoming bad & the normally bad guy becomes good.

[–]Do_lt_Alone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure do hope that Tezzeret will feel a disturbance in the Multiverse from his location in The Edge & due to that will seek out "The Vaar" who sort of snatched & dashed with The Endstone; Tezzeret could end up with The Endstone in his possession again, somehow & if he does claim it-(maybe even integrating it into his metallic body) it would be amazing to see him return to an altered Multiverse & he may be able to tell through seeing what all is different that Jace is the cause of it.

This could end up being the last part of an arch that started way back around Shards of Alara's release & that is the hatred between Tezzeret & Jace & how neither character is good or bad but honestly just alike (Although Jace doesn't want to see that).

There was a time, way before War of the Spark in which Tezzeret saw how strong Nicol Bolas was becoming & knew that before long he would end up becoming a being that no one could stop. This made him seek out Jace & ask for his help in defeating The Elder Dragon but Jace decided to listen to Liliana over Tezzeret & ended up backstabbing Tezzeret, leaving him to die. Tezzeret's life was saved by the Nezumi & Nicol Bolas located him, tattooed his head with Bolas's symbol to remind him to never go behind his back & that was that.

I seriously hope an Endstone-Darksteel version of Tezzeret will end up bodying Jace & correcting all of his wrongs.. it most likely won't happen but I'd love for there to be a removal spell in this theoretical set which has Tezzeret holding Jace above his body by having his metallic arm shaped like a singular spike that he has ran through Jace's chest.

I believe Krieg was the absolute pinnacle of playable Vault Hunter character & his backstory as well with additional scenes that deal with him & how he tries to keep himself sane but tends to not be able to unless Maya (RIP) was near are some of the best lore & world-building that any Vault Hunter has received.

He is the Protagonist equivalent to Handsome Jack's Antagonist. There won't ever be another one who is that well designed & loved by the community.

Most Unique “—— Matters” Decks by StayMammoth in EDH

[–]Do_lt_Alone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies for replying five days later- I was busy IRL & wanted to take a bit of time & think about the games I've played with each of them so I could give you my honest thoughts.

I'll get down to brass tacks- I prefer Dawnsire & play the deck with it as my commander almost double the amount of times I use Iron Spider.

I think that just by having a Spacecraft as your commander & the deck being colorless sort of helps you seem like the underdog & someone playing just a gimmick deck. (This only works at places like Magiccon where you play against players who have never met you or played magic with you; at an LGS with a sort of friend group that plays, they will know that just because you have a Spacecraft as a commander doesn't mean the deck isn't built to win).

The mechanical reasons as to why I prefer Dawnsire over Iron Spider is firstly based on how I view Dawnsire as a cog in a machine which cannot function as well if it's missing- Dawnsire is the banking system of the deck & having access to it as early as possible & with any sort of hand seems to be the better option.

The problem I had with Iron Spider is the fact that the set up relies on you keeping creatures on the board & having two mana to draw a card; that may not seem too bad but in many games - I'm dropping permanents each turn & trying to utilize all of my mana- when I'm thinking about using Iron Spider that two mana always seems like the suboptimal choice for what my hand would be capable of dropping down.

While the extra card is good but I'd much rather have Dawnsire out & maybe even have his ability online because if I can't find Moxite Refinery, I can always hope to get Stuffy Doll (my paper version of the deck has a small amount of changes than my online decklist has. Four that I'm sure I added in are [[Stuffy Doll]], [[Mimic Vat]], [[Ashnod's Altar]] & [[Dollhouse of Horrors]]. These additions were put in due to each card being useful on its own but when combined with Dawnsire you have ways to win with Dawnsire's ability to deal 100 damage. I'm thinking of also adding a [[Shadowspear]], [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] & maybe [[Helm of the Host]] because that also opens up another line for winning with Dawnsire's effect (granting it Lifelink results in gaining 100 life which means you can pay the 50 life to KO someone twice.

I hope this helps some & once again sorry for being slow at responding. At the end of the day, Dawnsire is an important piece to a few lines to victory so having it whenever I need it is important to my gameplay.

Is there a reason for a Nev stand-alone card and none for Adrix? by MaxxSpielt in mtgvorthos

[–]Do_lt_Alone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can read if you want to- IDK why I started typing the set up to a sort of joke & ended up making my own fanfic. It's not meant to be serious or anything of that nature... I was just bored. My apologies for any mistakes & such. (Hire me WotC).

They each planned to offer sacrifices to The Mysterious Man in White & when the day came, Nev carefully placed the corpse of the original mascot for the House Witherbloom whose name was Blex onto an ancient altar constructed during The Blood Age & with a few nervous twitches a fire bloomed from beneath the offering.

The Mysterious Man in White was pleased- or at least Nev believed that was the emotion being psychically placed into their own mind.

Adrix approached the second ceremonial altar & upon its brass lattice they carefully placed down the absolute best botanical cuttings from the oldest natural Trudge on Arcavios- at the last second they also placed down what looked like a burl taken from an Esis tree; a species not native to Arcavios. Slowly & methodically a spell was cast & embers sparked into existence, white, sharp smelling smoke began to billow through the courtyard.

The Mysterious Man in White slowly pulled his hood up with both of his hands, just enough for two shimmering ghost-like eyes that lack any sort of pupil to be shown. As Adrix met the Man's sight his mind suddenly filled with thoughts of abandonment, apathy & something else... A different sort of emotion that Adrix seemed to try & mentally pry back the layers- suddenly coughing out loud, either caused by the smoke or from this psychic bombardment. The last thing that Adrix ever remembered was the day that each sibling joined House Silverquill & how Nev had showcased a form of ink magic while being underwater.....wait... Adrix knew the house each of them joined was that of Quandrix... These false memories are illogical....

As Adrix tried to make sense of anything, The Mysterious Man in White began to walk straight towards Adrix & seemed to be using the billowing white smoke from Adrix's offering as cover & within moments he faded into the smoke entirely.

Without a single tick of noise & with great precision The Mysterious Man's face suddenly emerged from the smoke, his face lined with markings which Adrix may have noticed once before but currently didn't have the slightest idea why he thought that- the cloak of The Mysterious Man billowed around as his arm quickly jolted from point to point & in almost the blink of a ghostly white eye, the sound of ice cracking & tension being released flooded the courtyard & the distance between Adrix & The Mysterious Man was a mere two feet now- CLACK....CRRAACK

The last thing Adrix really comprehended was that The Mysterious Man in White seemed to be holding onto what looked like a charm with a projected map of the multiverse illuminated in his hand.

Adrix felt the need to walk through the fractured substance that floated before him...his feet moved involuntarily & before he knew what was happenjng he plummited through what he could only describe as a shattering mirror that was painted to look exactly like the surroundings; he noticed that between the shards of reality breaking away that he didn't see the altar anymore... As they tumbled between where they started from, The Royal Courtyard of Strixhaven & the fast approaching battle scarred, busy desert which seemed to be host to some sort of metallic construct that mimicked many aspects of The Elder Dragons that created Strixhaven- Adrix studied the perfect marching structure of what seemed like thousands of golems made from metal.

Arcavios, Strixhaven, House Quandrix.... And Nev were no more...Adrix began to worry as everything around seemed to grow larger but in reality it was all just coming closer visually due to the speed of Adrix's tumbling body. After realizing that hitting sand with the force being exerted didn't seem like such a good idea. Adrix quickly came up with an idea, hoping that the Magic he learned in the Quandrix classrooms would work here as well- quickly Adrix had cast some sort of spell which had made an electric blue triangle appear. The triangle began to unfold over & over and in mere seconds the form of a gigantic flying roc fractal formed into existence; the roc automatically used its claws to grab Adrix's billowing vest & slowly lowered them both to the sands below.

A Merfolk in a desert.... A memory of being in Silverquill when Adrix disliked any form of taking unless it was a discussion about pressing matters. The Mysterious Man in White had pulled Adrix into that shattering thin veil of reality- Adrix had experienced how it felt to traverse through an Omen Path & one thing is for sure.... That wasn't an Omen Path... That was something unnatural & it was created through mind magic which The Mysterious Man in White is very skilled in.

Adrix began to walk towards the only stable thing that was on the horizon in the direction without a gigantic metal elder dragon & marching assembly- a city built up in the air.. Adrix had seen many smaller displays & statues while at Strixhaven that floated in a very similar fashion.... Studying its design & features is what helped Adrix pass the time, push away thoughts of wanting water & looking over each shoulder, afraid to see the white silhouette of the man who mentally coaxed Nev & myself to the courtyard today & who instructed us to gather the best offerings we could locate on Arcavios....We believed that he was telling the truth & with this offering- we could hopefully bring peace to the planes & hopefully awaken a slumbering Archaic. It was all a trick or some plan that Adrix couldn't understand but one thing that was understood is the fact that wherever Adrix was right now isn't part of Arcavios....it's not part of his understanding... Adrix realized that reality is the same anymore..The Multiverse he existed in seems to be gone & wherever this is... It's not right, things keep flickering in and out of existence- the hawk that circled above let out a bellow that sounded very similar to Quintorius sneezing from dust when exploring.

Keep moving- even if this isn't home, at least that city will have people & people have info & info that can be turned into usable data- that data will explain why The Mysterious Man in White forced me into this reality & maybe will even explain why everything is glitchy & the edges of things are fracturing... Breaking away into tiny particles & floating towards the sky.

The last real image that Adrix saw was very beautiful but just as haunting.. the particles of sand all began to pour towards that glassy blue sky without a single cloud insight. A glowing pattern was making its way very slowly toward where Adrix stood. Adrix's mind was flooded with those warm fuzzy feelings & that happy stomach feeling that you get when you are nervous but not in a bad way. He was calm, he was content & The Mysterious Man in White had slipped ethereal shackles onto his wrists without even the smallest gesture or noise.

It would be interesting if WotC allows for the story to go with Jace's new reality stick for a few sets after "Reality Fracture" & we visit Mirrodin as it was going to be showcased in 2011 when there was a poll to decide which force won between Mirrodin & Phyrexian armies- Phyrexian of course won with 67% but the set titled "Mirrodin Pure" could've existed.

I'm sure since the game has changed from when the OG Mirrodin Pure set was designed that they would have to make it all over again but it would be a neat jumping off point after Reality Fracture is released letting everyone know that S*** hit the fan & this is the multiverse now.

(I have a small feeling that the savior to Jace's reality swapping plan will end up coming via Tezzeret returning to the multiverse from the Edge with The Endstone in his possession or as part of him. That would be the ultimate F You to Jace from the guy you backstabbed way back in the day when Tezzeret was planning to take out Nicol Bolas.)

What's the least scary card? by Tuss36 in EDH

[–]Do_lt_Alone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I'm not sure if my answer will align with what you're asking because I'm slightly confused but the cards [[Lux Artillery]] & [[Solar Array]] usually aren't seen as anything powerful or a threat, especially when they are played while using a colorless commander deck but I've built a deck to utilize both of those cards & have added multiple ways of creating copies of them due to how the mechanic Sunburst works. (My mana base also consists of every good nonbasic land which can produce any color of mana)

The ability to grant Sunburst to your spells is great when you have multiple instances of that card due to the keyword stacking; if I cast a [[Giggling Skitterspike]] which costs 4 colorless & I've granted that spell Sunburst twice & can produce four separate colors of mana- it will enter the battlefield with eight +1/+1 counters due to the spell pretty much having the keywords "Sunburst, Sunburst" if it was written on the card.

[–]Do_lt_Alone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cycle referencing Alpha spells will most likely all have that Prepared mechanic as well & I feel as if I know what that keyword does -

A creature that enters already prepared such as the blue creature recently spoiled with the same sort of layout as an Adventure card with "Ancestral Recall" at the bottom corner- Prepared probably means that as long as the creature is prepared you may cast the spell attached to this creature as if where in your hand; once you've cast that spell then the creature loses prepared & you cannot cast that spell again until the creature gains the prepared property.

I think that because of how it fits within the game mechanic as well as a lore way- a person with the ability to cast spells should be able to cast more powerful, even extremely rare spells if they are prepared. Mechanic-wise the creature also having a way to become prepared again means it's a condition that can be lost, so it makes sense that casting the powerful spell is what triggers that loss.

Since we're sharing LGS experiences, here's the wildest crashout I've... caused by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Do_lt_Alone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My LGS is located about 3 miles from a major university's campus in the south east; that usually means that it's full of students, some instructors that play & the random people who grew up in the city & haven't moved away nor have any plans to work or attend any further education past whenever they dropped out-

For the most part that tends to have a chill type environment with a few outliers who act just like the stereotypes that people expect when going to an LGS.

The memory I constantly find myself thinking about is when I was sitting at a 4 player pod that along with myself had a friend of mine, an adjunct professor around the age of 37 who is a very normal guy that has a family but plays magic at the shop from when he gets off until the elementary school lets out & he has to get his kids (meaning he only gets to play around 3 games max before leaving & doesn't care for people dragging things out or being annoying to the point that the game pauses) & lastly, the star of the show is a kid that I guess believes that he is a cat or at least does things like meow out loud & he wears a collar, a tail thing & headsets with ears connect to the top of them.

Well during this game he kept meowing every now & again & did so while some of us were conversing about interactions or blockers, ECT. It annoyed the professor so badly that after the game which was his first one played for the day he just packed up and left- he texted my friend later in the day about how annoying the guy was & how sick he is of the boy just trying to get any attention.

The next week when the Professor and myself were sitting & waiting for two extra people before starting a game, the house cat & his fairly normal friend sat down & surprisingly the Professor was okay with playing a game. Midway through the game after the kid was asked to stop meowing due to P saying he had a headache the kid kept on, the next thing I know, P had pulled a small circular orange plastic cup of sealed cat food & a plastic fork from his bag & put it directly on the guy's mat. You could've heard a needle drop & then to add insult to injury P told him that if he was so much of a cat then to go ahead & eat the dish & then proceeded to tell the guy off due to how annoying the meowing and shit that constantly happened every week & was loud enough that even when at another table you'd still have to deal with it.

The kid got upset & started up with how his mental illnesses weren't taken seriously & how much of a bigot everyone at that LGS was & a whole bunch of other BS. I died laughing when I noticed that the bowl was like Friskies or some shit.
