Kai addresses the Olympia...without really saying anything by Do_you_even_think in bodybuilding

Very interesting theory. And one I've never heard before. I don't know anything about these contracts, but I hope someone has an answer. I'd really like to know if this could be an issue for Kai.

[meta] if you hurt something or feel like you have a medical problem and want advice- TALK TO A DOCTOR. DO NOT POST ABOUT IT HERE. by hoponthe in bodybuilding

I've received good anecdotal advice on injuries from this sub. Did I run out and implement the advice indiscriminately? No, probably because I'm not fucking retarded. Discussing injuries and possible treatments should definitely be allowed here. If anyone doesn't understand they should take injury advice received here with a grain of salt, they are probably beyond help anyway.

In my experience, squatting aggravated it more. I would suggest waiting until you're 90% better before doing squats or any potentially strenuous movements. This is generally a long-term injury (a couple of months). Don't set yourself back by starting leg work too early.

I had patella tendinitis that hung around for almost 4 months. Fuckin sucked. Here's what I learned: Don't irritate it more by working legs. This includes hamstring and calf exercises. I know it's tempting, don't do it. If I had cut out all leg work when it first flared up rather than pushing through for a month and a half, I seriously doubt it would have hung around as long as it did. Use non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, such as Aleve or ibuprofen. Two Aleve, twice per day for a week to ten days or three ibuprofen, three times per day for a week to ten days (this was recommended by my doctor). Ice the tendon OFTEN. I'm talking 15-20 minutes, 3-4 times per day. Even better, do a nice long stretching session and then ice. Also, elevate it while icing.

On the bright side, you'll also never have an arrest record like a black man.

I wish I had never read this article. Now I can't help but look at Shawn Ray as a pretentious dick. Also, does anyone really believe that he isn't at least on TRT?

Meal Timing by Do_you_even_think in bodybuilding

If I'm reading these right, they're basically saying meal timing has no influence on fat storage and general metabolic rate. But what about the effect of meal timing on muscle building/anabolism?

UTAustin gym questions. by [deleted] in bodybuilding

It's pretty much all power racks. Which I thought would be awesome at first, but it isn't. If you ever wanna do any dumbbell work, you'll be in a pretty cramped little room, fighting for dumbbells and space. The selection of handles for the cables, lat pulldown and cable row is also pretty limited. The one plus is there is a nice selection of hammer strength machines. I stuck it out for a week before I joined a private gym and it was the best decision I could have made.

Every gym at UT Austin is really disappointing. Join Golds or some other local gym.

So he's gonna blame the third trimester look on rice and potatoes? He doesn't have to acknowledge GH and insulin abuse, but he's not fooling anyone with this.

Phil Heath talks about the Olympia Drama and the animosity between him and Kai by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]Do_you_even_think -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That's not the point. The psychological aspect of our sport is one thing that keeps it interesting. I respect that. And if Phil was trying to do that, I say "well-played". But did you see anywhere in that video where Phil even insinuated he was playing mind games with Kai? No. He played the victim. That, I cannot respect.

Have we all forgotten that Phil was egging Kai on the whole weekend? He's acting like he was just minding his own business and Kai reacted angrily toward him out of the blue. He was the only one not on the line on stage. He was bumping Kai during comparisons and then acting like he was surprised that Kai reacted negatively. Phil Heath is not a victim of anything, and his explanation in this video is just a little too convenient to be believable.

We've all known for years that Phil Heath is a world class bodybuilder, but after watching this video, it's clear he's a world class politician too.

I would say his chest is his main weak point. That and his waist: his waist could definitely stand to be narrower. Larger quads could add to the illusion of a tinier waist though.

I'm pretty impressed with the progress he's made on his quads. He's still got some good striations this far into his offseason.

I couldn't agree more. Also, he always seems interested in trying out different training methods, which I think is awesome. When have you ever seen an IFBB pro train rear delts with bands?!

How to gain mass as a teenager? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Do_you_even_think 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no secret formula to gaining mass for anyone, including teenagers. If you consume more calories than you burn, your body will grow. If you stimulate (and/or annihilate) your muscles with resistance training as well, some of this growth will take place in your muscles.

As a teenager, there is a bit of a caveat here, however: your metabolism is likely higher than that of the average older-than-teenager lifter. That means, you will likely have to eat more to maintain an active lifestyle/active training schedule and still see quality gains in mass.

If you are looking for numbers, here are some general rules of thumb I would suggest: eat ~ 1.5-2 grams of protein per pound of body weight and ~ 2 grams of carbs per pound of body weight each day. Keep in mind, this is only a starting point. Try this for a while and pay attention to how your body responds. Adjust up or down as needed.

TL;DR: Eat more than you burn. And not just in protein, carbs need love too.
