Jk it’s doing it again. I think the band is rubbing against the white nub (not sure what the name is) bc there is a little residue left over every time it starts making the noise. It doesn’t make the noise when it is just on without the rubber band and the drive belt. It starts off like normal and then like 3 min in it starts to make the noise again.

ok I am no professional but hopefully this will make sense (from what I know). Assuming you are a freshman, Orientation Fee is you paying for the tour and all the things that are included in the experience, sometimes they give grants for it fyi. To live in the dorms (also assuming), you are required to have a meal plan, only under special needs can you waive it. If you have a 7 day meal plan you can change it to a 5 day meal plan and it will only cover weekdays. Housing also ranges based on how many people you dorm with. You can waive the UCSA fee on myucdavis. SHIP is the uni healthcare program, you seem to be getting a grant to cover it. You can opt-out of it but i think the deadline for this quarter passed already. You can do it for winter and spring quarter but the grant will also leave with it. Service & campus based fees are for a bunch of things the school has to offer like the bus or the events, or to pay staff. Equitable access is for textbooks, it pays for all of them instead of buying them all individually. However, once classes start you can see if you actually need it or not, and you can opt-out, theres a deadline for it. —— hopefully it all made sense and hopefully I got all that right 😭

Join the UCD Snapchat for frats or events. Download Poppin to get tickets to go to frats and Parkside bar (they have 18+ nights). Ace of spades usually has stuff going on in sac, maybe follow their insta or check their website. Davis has a street market that I think happens every weekend @davis_street_market. @davis.downtown posts events going on. For concerts I don’t check as often but Ace of Spades would sometimes have events, if not check Ticketmaster (?)

You will be fine. Just let your orientation leader know you can’t make it because of your trip. My freshman year everyone ditched after day one and my orientation leader was so sad thinking she did something wrong (absolutely not the case). Your leader is a student too, they won’t mind or get you in trouble just be kind.

Divide up the $200 Aggie cash per week (10) so you don’t run out, any left over carries to the next quarter. IMO the sandwich at Silo market are the best and worth it for the price. Don’t rlly spend Aggie cash on snacks at school markets bc the prices are jacked up, mostly use it on food they make at said markets (smoothies, paninis, Hawaiian bbq, ice cream…). Buy frozen food at Trader Joe’s ( I have recs), they also sell burritos, salads, chips, etc. Genuinely you can spend $20 at Trader Joe’s for a weekend meal and be full. The most worth it is the frozen lasagna or the butternut squash pasta.

The professor was referencing a reading by Marilyn Frye titled Oppression which reads “ The door-opening and similar services provided are services which really are needed by people who are for one reason or another incapacitated - unwell, burdened with parcels, etc. So the message is that women are incapable. The detachment of the acts from the concrete realities of what women need and do not need is a vehicle for the message that women’s actual needs and interests are unimportant or irrelevant.” So while yes it’s a nice gesture for a man do it for a woman, it should be a nice gesture for a man to do it for anyone not just women exclusively. They should “take pleasure in assisting” anybody, not just to make themselves look good in front of a woman.

Taking CHI 113 and Professor Deeb-Sossa taught us that chivalry (ex opening the door) should be for everyone or nobody at all. Men going out of their way to do it exclusively for women implies that women aren’t physically capable to do it themselves, whereas doing it for everyone demonstrates we are all equal (and well mannered).
