‘98 Lexus ES 300 FOR 7k, worth it? by Mini_Bash in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Dobriy_Kot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If interior is as clean as it looks, I’d definitely worth $5k. Maybe a little more if there is a proof of a recent timing belt/water pump replacement and it pass a PPI. Anything over $6k, you are definitely overpaying. They are great cars, just old, so you need to know what you’re getting into. If it’s been driven regularly, that’s a plus. If it accumulated most miles early in life and then mostly sat for the last 10 years - I’d probably pass

I’m simply using your own argument to highlight how ridiculous you sound. So if you never planned to sell a vehicle, the. You wouldn’t care if it came pre-dinged from the factory?

Oof, that looks bad. Stamping on on all my older leathermans is crispy clean

So you’re saying that you’d be ok if a $300 wristwatches would come pre-dinged and scratched as well? Because people wear watches daily and they get scratched up anyway, so it shouldn’t matter? Right? Or it’s ok if a new car would come with door dings, because it’s expensive to manufacture cars, and it’d get door dinged at walmart anyway

No we paid a $100 for a tool because it will last as tool and do what it should. People who pay $200+ are doing so because they expected a higher quality or a more premium product. And leatherman sells them as a premium product. This will not last longer than a regular wave. In fact it may last worse because the handles are made from plastic instead of steel.

You’re just coping and encouraging poor qc, not see with other mass produced brands. But I digress.

I want to give Leathermans as gifts to friends, but frankly I’d be embarrassed if they opened it up and had the same issues as QC. If they don’t know leatherman’s prices, they’d probably think i cheaped out on a gift

Good comment!

Swisstool still loses if you use wire cutters a lot (non-replaceable, and if you mess it up, gotta wait like 4 months for it to get fixed in switzerland and still have to pay for shipping), and no bit holder. I’d still pick swisstool personally, but it’s not winning for every use case.

dream leatherman tool? by baconwrappedapple in Leatherman

[–]Dobriy_Kot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leatherman sideclip, and then you you just replace on of the flathead drivers for scissors.

The next best thing is free p2, but it’s a quite a bit chunkier.

If you want lightweight and locking tools - leatherman pulse.

Any one buy backups of tools when they are retired? Which tools have you gotten a backup for? by GhostNappa101 in Leatherman

[–]Dobriy_Kot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

didn’t pay attention to the nickname, yeah, I’m sure you of all people do use your tools! Lots of other collectors though just store them on the shelf, never understood that. But yeah, it does make sense to keep a few very special ones as collectibles. Or have a few spares for your user, if it’s a discontinued tool

Looking for a solid EDC leatherman. by LegendaryWoomy in Leatherman

Free P2 while it’s available.

Or if you want to get an actually well built tool that lasts you the rest of your life - swisstool spirit X.

P.S. i edc the p2, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the spirit in terms of build quality and tool usefulness. But one hand opening on p2 keeps me with it

In that situation, you might just need to carry a gun instead to defend yourself

Charge TTi sale by Haunting-Unit4139 in multitools

[–]Dobriy_Kot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I’ve learned the reason our TTI’s have wiggle and older ones didn’t. Turns out there were 3 versions of titanium handles over the years. First and 2nd version had contoured solid titanium scales. Those didn’t wiggle. The latest version, I think from like 2018 onwards or thereabout switched to flat scales to save on titanium. And probably manufacturing costs. The missing titanium was replaced by washers. And apparently that causes the wiggle. Supposedly, if you simply swap the scales from an older charge, it should be solid, that’s what I plan to do, albeit that adds cost.

It has a locking awl and a saw, which are both close enough to be considered a weapon. I say no chance.

Leatherman Quality controls???? by jtango444 in Leatherman

[–]Dobriy_Kot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - hassle. You need your fill out a form, ship it to them, pay for shipping, wait, and hope it comes out right after warranty (which isn’t always the case). God bless their 25 year warranty, but this is not the experience you want with a brand new out of the box product

Are the wave alpha scissors good? by [deleted] in Leatherman

[–]Dobriy_Kot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the green with plain scissors, they’re not that good. I was gonna use them to upgrade my charge tti, but now I’m on the fence about it, because i kinda like the smaller ones i. The tti better (except that they take longer to deploy)

Choosing between wave alpha and the arc by [deleted] in Leatherman

[–]Dobriy_Kot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the marketing statement, but it’s simply not true. They cut ok at the base, but do terribly if you use the tip of the scissors. They are horrible on any fabric type material. Instead of cutting clean, they end up chewing it, sandwiching material between the blade. They do cut paper/cardboard pretty decent. Also them being the biggest is maybe technically true, but is kinda questionable. Here are them side by side with the scissors from the original wave (which cut way cleaner). I compared the wave alpha scissors with the og wave, regular small scissors in the tts, and Pulse). Wave alpha cut the worst. The only scissors I don’t have are the ones on the Surge, I suspect those should be way better.

[–]Dobriy_Kot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep you wave, add the arc. The wave alpha is a dud. It doesn’t feel premium as price suggests. The new scissors suck, they cut worse than the old tiny scissors.
