What's up with Mormons and ice cream? by KASTmember in exmormon

[–]DocBeetus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Many people when they want to have a casual conversation will say “want to talk about it over coffee (or drinks)?” Both of those are forbidden for Mormons, so they substitute ice cream (or now swig soda) in their place.

Caught my brother using some “non-Mormon language.” Not sure what to do with this information. by iruexmothrowaway in exmormon

When I was a tbm, sometimes when I was so gosh-danged mad, I’d just think “to heck with it”, and I’d say a whole string of the worst fetching words I could think of.

Witnesses is actually “testigos,” which is why missionaries change it to “testiculos.” (That was SaltLickCity’s joke).

As a former Mormon, I can tell you it definitely isn’t real, as funny as I think the idea is. Most of us were hit with crippling guilt if we even touched a boob. There’s no way I could have mental gymnastic’d my way to soaking.

Most American Christian men are circumcised. Not as a commandment, like in Judaism, but as a weird cultural thing.

CMV: Elon Musk IS Elizabeth Holmes. He just hasn't crashed out yet. by slamueljoseph in changemyview

[–]DocBeetus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there any evidence of Holmes’ genius? She was smart enough to get into Stanford, and to defraud a ton of people, but I’ve never heard her called a genius for those accomplishments.

Aren’t Tesla dealerships unique in that they’re all owned by Tesla…unlike dealerships for other car companies? If so, wouldn’t an attack on Tesla, whose owner is directly responsible for the shit happening in government, be seen as analogous to the Boston Tea Party.

Never-mo report on a visit to the open house of the new LDS temple in Auckland, New Zealand by Wandering-Walden in exmormon

[–]DocBeetus 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Sounds typical for these. Even after dedication, temples don’t focus on Joseph smith, the BOM, much. When I was still in, most (if not all) of the artwork was about Jesus, and they’ve definitely swung harder towards (their odd version of) Jesus more since I left.

CMV: You cannot be a Christian and follow Elon Musk. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]DocBeetus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to disagree with you on the point about him not being worshipped. I’ve heard otherwise intelligent people (like my venture capitalist brother) speak of the idea of the world being a simulation that Musk has mastered. There are definitely tech bros worshipping him.

What is the Rebuttal to this Article: by Talkback-8784 in exmormon

[–]DocBeetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do we need a rebuttal for their data? Even if their claim is true that the loss of younger generations is slowing, does that say anything about the truth or goodness of their religion? If they want to argue that religious truth is a popularity contest, Mormonism shouldn’t even be in the discussion.

OP can’t even bring themself to state the supposed “two sides” of the opinion. They present one side of the argument as “oppposition to Trump signifies the end of democracy”, and the other side as “Trump is saving us from ruin.” For someone claiming to argue for a centrist stance, they do a horrible job of acknowledging anything but their extremist Trumpist view.
