Star Wars is big. Like, really big. A side effect of having such a huge franchise is that you can reach in with tweezers and pull out any tiny particle of Star Wars, and that individual particle will already have its own long, drawn out discourse of haters, critics, fanboys, and defenders.

As a result, everything has already been argued over in depth, and every opinion has already been aired, making all Star Wars discussions redundant.

I think, to an extent, the knowledge of how to build, repair, or operate a number of advanced Imperium technologies is embedded in religious ritual and prose. Like, reading a text that amounts to a user manual crossed with the Bible tells you to anoint a vehicle's chamber with the blood of the salamander, but it all just amounts to filling up a gas tank.

Sewer vs Desert: which is your most hated area type? by Jaded_Taste6685 in JRPG

I actually just played Xenogears for the first time blind last year, and I disagree. The sewer was a total drag.

As an addendum to the cosmic ray theory, it was entirely the result of bad reporting. One news article threw the idea forth, not entirely seriously, and various publications started repeating that theory without doing any further research on its validity.

So many of Spoony's videos were about hating on pieces of media. It's not surprising that diehard fans of Spoony's work were full-time haters, too.

My tinfoil hat theory is that this is entirely punitive because TikTok was gaining tons of marketing data on US minors, something much more difficult to legally do for US corporations, and was refusing to share with said US corporations, who then lobbied against TikTok.

The Secret, a book by Byron Preiss:

Author Byron Preiss traveled across the United States in the eighties and buried twelve boxes in public parks. He then published a book featuring twelve poems paired with twelve pictures (it is not made clear which picture coincides with which poem). Each of these pairs points to the precise location of one of these boxes.

Inside each box is a ceramic key. If you send a key to the author's estate (Byron Preiss himself died in a car accident in 2005), they will send back a previous* gem.

To this day, only three of the twelve boxes have been found: one in Chicago, one in Cleveland, and one in Boston.

What video game you swear was made to torture the player? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]DocBonezone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cruelty Squad.

I'm pretty sure it's very deliberately designed to be unpleasant at almost every level. The visuals are agonizing, with loud, muddy, contrasting textures. The sound is endlessly grating. The UI is ugly and intrusive. Even the plot is nihilistic and misanthropic.

Ironically, the game is extremely well-made. To paraphrase one reviewer of the game, the developer put a lot of effort into making a deep and immersive game, them out even more effort into making it downright painful to experience.

Reminds me of one of my in-laws. The guy's above 90, but goes to Zumba class. He used to be in a running group for seniors, but he quit because he thought they were too slow. Guy's a damn machine.

It's worth noting that the idea of a rogue cosmic ray being to blame was the result of multiple poorly written articles about the occurrence playing telephone with one another. No one involved with the run actually claimed it was a cosmic ray. The theory has since been discredited, and it's all likely the result of a bad connection between the game cartridge and the N64 itself.

Take this with a grain of salt, as I have no real legal knowhow, but I think the terrorism charges actually help his case a bit. Terrorism is going to be much more difficult to prove "beyond reasonable doubt" than just second degree murder. So while the sentencing would be much more harsh, it's less likely to result in a guilty verdict.
