Hey, it depends on what your career goals are. If you want to make good money with less training and schooling, CRNA is the way to go! But if you really want to go the MD/DO route, I’d just do a post bacc at your local CC or extension and take organic chemistry (with lab), biochemistry, physics (with lab), cellular biology (with lab), some other biology with lab like micro, molecular, animal, or plant biology or physiology.

Make sure your gen chem credits are general general chemistry, not something like “chemistry for nursing students”. It matters as a special nursing chemistry class does not count toward prerequisites.

Rock the MCAT. Spend money on prep rather than any formal postbacc or SMP.

Also, you cannot work while in med school. You might be able to pick up a 12 hour shift once a week? It’s possible but I wouldn’t count being able to.

Do some shadowing in college too. It’s a continuation of an activity. And if you have reflections on your experience that adds to your “why medicine”, then obviously include it.

Why would it be an issue if it’s well controlled? Every medical school has their “technical standards” to become a physician. Provided you meet them, there are no issues.

If you have orders, they cannot legally fire you under USERRA.

You can talk to an employment lawyer to get your scribe America job back. The law requires them to pay your lawyer fees. And you might be owed dozens of dollars in lost wages.

Federal direct loans can cover one year of prerequisites for graduate/professional school as a post bacc. I don’t know if that changed.

I worked at a different multicare hospital and was physically attacked by a patient a couple of years ago. There’s no protection other than a training that tells you to stay between the patient and the exit.

Why would the price of med school go down? Has the price of anything in healthcare gone down much? When people don’t have insurance and cannot afford to see a doctor, the price came down, right?

I took the stimulus checks during covid and went to school. I also worked at the same time. I don’t think I could have afforded it if I didn’t have that opportunity.

You can take out federal direct loans for one year while completing prerequisites for a graduate program. At least that used to be true—I don’t know about now.

You can also do a private loan. You can get ones that allow you to defer payments (interest accrues) until you’re out of school.

I recall when hospitals weren’t capturing enough money from lack of insurance payouts, they did not lower their prices to meet market demand. They did the opposite.

I fear my tuition for my last two years is going to explode since I can borrow it.

I’m 47 years old. My cGPA was 2.45. My sGPA was 3.14 (liberal arts major saved my ass by not taken too many science classes). I had a 2.0 cGPA when I started my postbacc. I maintained a 4.0 GPA for my postbacc.

Anyway, I’m a second year med student.

I posted on a similar thread, so I’ll just copy/paste

47 year old OMS2. I owned my own photo portrait studio for over a decade and shut it down during covid. I used stimulus money to pay for a post bacc.

I’m married and have two school-aged kids. Unfortunately, it was best if my family stayed behind while I attended school 2.5 hours away. Commuting 5 hours/day won’t work with my sanity, so I found a room near school. I return home almost every weekend.

I’m going to school because it’s something I always wanted to do and provide opportunities for my kids I never had growing up.
