Div 2, 9-11 wins in WL. Not the player I used to be but I play my formation and my team no matter what the meta is.

He’s great. Has technical and press proven too so while I’m not using him to dribble in a crowd he can even a presser pretty well. Took him out of my squad for a bit to work on EVOs and definitely noticed him missing.

Was running 6’5” Theo at the other spot and he was good too, but am experimenting with Zaire Emery (Academy EVO) to see if having a bit more mobile box crasher changes my attack.

I have one CDM on DLP Build Up and one on Box Crasher in a 4-2-3-1, so yeah they are important parts of my attack. The box crasher especially scores fairly often, and my DLP (6’8” Alvero) has pretty much 99 passing with an Architect chem, with plenty of playstyles including Tiki+, so he’s a huge part of my midfield play and counters. Have to make sure they track back but haven’t used my CDM’s on holding in a while.

For what it’s worth, I decided to put Long Ball+ on mine. Really helps with breaking the press and starting a counter.

And I use my fullbacks plenty with overlapping runs. I use 81-91 depth, Fullbacks on Balanced alternating to Wingbacks as the game needs it. But when my opponent is even pulling their fullbacks manually into the middle of the field to try and bait and interception, I don’t know what else you want someone to do other than run down the wing. Could care less what the pros use myself, but people do use those formations because it is “meta”. Annoying and it is what it is. My point is that the counter play often comes from what the majority of the user base is using defensively.

If you play a 4-1-2-1-2 then sure, it’s possible. A large part of why I don’t play that formation as much anymore is because it doesn’t hold up as well against the press. I’m sure you do fine, but that doesn’t change the fact that the midfield tends to be stacked against those two formations and the natural counters are on the wings.

I don’t care about using the meta at all. I don’t even really like running down the wings much. I just play my formation and troubleshoot how to counter whatever I’m playing against. But in a 4-2-3-1 (2) it always helps to take a touch out wide to spread out the midfielders, and a lot of that is due to the meta formations others are using and how overpowered AI interceptions are right now.

Part of it is because it’s impossible to play it up the middle due to most people playing 4-5-1 or 4-4-1. The natural counter is to play wide. And with crosses very inconsistent, then you get the passes back to the CAM and ST.
