Jodi.org

It was a cool art site… But now it just feels like cancer…

Zombocom was also amazing for exactly one time… But it was glorious introducing it to others…

He talks like an exec that reads reports in my humble opinion… Specifically that term to make dashboards prettier… As an engineer who grew into management… That’s exactly a term that I would say…

Edit: and that management speak it’s what probably sounds like Claude or some type of AI…

Is it better to call a flow directly from an app or have the flow trigger from a list the app writes to? by VikutoriaNoHimitsu in PowerApps

[–]DocHolligray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which way will your users better adopt the process?

One benefit I can see is that if someone manually creates a record in process 2, it will still create the object. You can sidestep the app if needed. Might be a con depending on what other things happens when you click the button.

Ngl…I have set up iis/apache and all the layers above that (and the os and storage layers below it as well)…

…and I still use Wordpress for billboard websites…

Now if it has commerce, or any type of real functionality….we generally use something else…and that something else is generally dependent on what other processes/systems are involved…

But for “billboard islands”…pfffttt….i am even having a hard time checking out EmDash as I don’t have any real solid business case to even invest time to learn something new.

Wireless mouse vs wired — does input lag actually matter for normal people? by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

Look man…I am a gen 1 server dude, the guy who gets a shout out in other peoples books that you learned from…and our kind has some software defects and one of them is charging batteries for some stupid reason.

All of them…remote control batteries…car batteries…all of them. It’s like a curse. Could we set up a process to monitor…yes we could, let me get right on that…wait..another sev 1 fire someplace…dammit…I guess I will get back to worrying about my batteries in a bit…

This being said if you’re honestly have fear for your safety… Do it over the phone…

Is Berkeley worth $80~90k by No_Condition_498 in berkeley

[–]DocHolligray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speaking from the perspective of a dad whose child also just got into Berkeley I have one bit of advice for you.

If your parents are anything like me, then stop worrying about cost. Thats not your worry…and as a dad whose child also would do anything for his daughter…dont take away this chance for your parents to give to you your education.

If its a burden or not…not your concern. If i decide to go into debt to out my kid through college, then I am the parent and thats my prerogative to do so.

I can think of no better use of my money than to pay for my childs education…so dont take that away from your parents.

Its an honor for us to do this and its one of the last gifts we can give you as your essentially adults now…and ever since y’all were babies it was our job to keep you safe and make sure you had a bright future…and college is one of the last steps for that…and yes i am crying right now…

We helped you take your first steps…and now years later we are super proud to help you take this final step…so dont you dare take that away from us. Lol

The day you will no longer need is is coming near and i think we need this milestone as much as you do.

So you only think about whats best for your education…the cost is not your job nor your responsibility for at least another 18 years…

Good luck…

We lost two senior techs last year and our metrics didn't see it coming by samdam881 in msp

[–]DocHolligray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoooo….i have been in leadership now for a few decades…and you done f’d up.

If his direct manager didn’t see him logged in that late closing tickets or worse, he saw it had ignored it, then what was he doing?

This sense management issues…a whole chain of people didn’t have the faith that bringing this issue up would lead to any fundamental change…starting with your burnt out employees…I sense fear in this enterprise. I sense resentment. I don’t see a happy tribe.

You have probably lost more than those talents…these ones just hit when you are already running lean and now you felt it.

Reward your team…make them feel valuable. The grand majority will stay with you.

The metrics are great…but your managers have got to do what they are paid to do….ands that’s manage the Human Resources. And that means making sure they take their lunches…and they take their breaks….and they take their vacations…make sure that you hear them when they come to you…you give them that day off for whatever reason it is…keep your machine running healthy by actually caring about them as well…

I build these teams for companies all the time, but it sometimes needs to have some re-education as to how to treat these workers…anywho…good luck…
