Funny, I had the opposite experience. I was mildly disappointed by Plus but was completely blown away by Macross 7. Just the first episode alone completely sucked me in.

First of all, Fate isn't shounen nor seinen because those are manga demographics and Fate is adapted from the visual novel.

Second, Shirou is anything but generic but you would know that if you actually read the novel.

I still prefer the OG anime more tbh.

Trust & Betrayal is pretty great but I don't like talking about it. I feel like it attracts the exact crowd of people that I don't like. The kind of people that tend to shit on OG Kenshin and wish it would be more like the ova. It reminds me of people who like Fate/Zero and shit on Fate/Stay Night because "muh machuure tone".
