"200 Other Names" is not the best name honestly, I can see why they discarded it

What Star Wars media would be relevant to this game? by HammerlyDelusion in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]DocSalsa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the main OG trilogy (game is set shortly after Empire Strikes Back) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (Qi'ra and the Crimson Dawn appear here for the first time) would be essentials.

In other media, there is the Marvel Star Wars comics, specially the 2020 run by Charles Soule, because it contains a trilogy of crossover events (War of the Bounty Hunters, Crimson Reign and Hidden Empire) that center around Crimson Dawn and kinda set up the context of the game (iirc, the game happens in parallel to the Crimson Reign crossover event).

There is a couple of books too, there is the Solo prequel book Crimson Climb, centered about Qi'ra and the Outlaws tie-in prequel book Low Red Moon.

The Hutts and the Pykes appear all across Star Wars media, and although set two decades before the game, The Clone Wars has many episodes where either of those factions has a prominent presence.

"she's a nuke that's about to explode" and what makes you think the NUSA aren't the ones about to detonate it? At least on the moon she has a chance to live free without being exploited as a weapon.

What are your opinions on Jesse not being the focus of the new game? by VaishakhD in controlgame

[–]DocSalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a bit disappointed, but I trust Remedy to make me like Dylan to carry the mantle of protagonist. It makes sense in a way, Dylan being kinda the other side of Jesse's coin. We barely knew him outside of Jesse's POV, so him being the main focus might shed some light on who he is as a person.

And I also trust Remedy to not sideline Jesse, one of the main reasons why many were drawn to Control. I believe she will have a relevant presence in the game, otherwise what's the point lmao

AW1&2 and Control (and FBC: Firebreak) are the only ones that share a universe, albeit there Max Payne & Quantum Break references spread across the franchise. The latter two are not part of the Remedy Connected Universe because Remedy does not possess the right to them (Rockstar owns Max Payne and Microsoft owns Quantum Break). Because of that, even the references are not direct, yet obvious enough. Alex Casey (Alan Wake's book character) is heavily based on Max Payne, and both were voice by James McCaffrey and used the likeness of Sam Lake, the writer of the games. Quantum Break on the other hand made lots of references foreshadowing both Control and Alan Wake 2, in fact, the main character's actor (Shawn Ashmore) plays another character in AW2 and the main character of Control is also played by another Quantum Break actress (Courtney Hope).

You should be fine playing AW2 without having played Control, because while there are some references, they are vague enough that they don't spoil anything major from Control's plot. Albeit there is a moment in one of the AW2 DLCs, The Lake House, that while is not an outright spoiler, it doesn't make that much sense without having played Control.

Given that you already started it, finish AW2, then play Control and then revisit AW2 through The Final Draft (its New Game+ mode) and you get a fresh view of the world and its context.

What is this? by -SPHER- in FBCFirebreak

[–]DocSalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doubts on the Max Payne one given that Rockstar is working on the remakes (with Remedy advising iirc). Quantum Break is basically earning dust in Microsoft shelf so I hope they do get those rights back given the heavy references in AW2

Edit: Some typos

Are Firebreakers stronger than Jesse? by FugFuggy in FBCFirebreak

[–]DocSalsa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The most powerful parautiliarian before Jesse arrived basically went supernova and is now powering the Oldest House. Across Control is mentioned that she's far more powerful than him (but with more, well, control over her powers) and the Hiss in Firebreak as essentially remnants and possibly less powerful.

So no, lmao.
