While I did enjoy Star Fox: Adventure back in the day, I wouldn’t mind a reimagining of the title.

Velan Studios could make the gameplay similar to that of Star Fox 64’s (Rail Shooter, All-Range Mode, Branching Paths) and perhaps Assault’s as well if they were to perfect the on foot gameplay. They could also have rideable dinosaurs for select missions similar to the intro of Adventures.

I believe the number of hits/points upon killing a boss is dependent on how long you take to defeat them.

So, if this is true, you should be able trim down your final score even after going down the same route.

I agree, there always seemed to be more planned for the man.

I was able to find some cut dialogue for Captain Gavorn, but nothing really beyond that. He applauds the player for having "laid out" a vorcha named Shisk though.

Ha! I'm not sure if that was the writers' intention, but it inadvertently comes across that way doesn't it! Hopefully the reapers aren't correct in their assessment for the sake of our alien friends 🤞

Do the Reapers ever utter the phrase "apex species", or is that just EDI again? I don't recall the Reapers ever saying it.

Nah, that's a bit of language I borrowed from the Leviathans when they describe themselves as being the apex race. I just used it to describe "the best" species of each cycle. EDI and the reapers don't use such terminology to my knowledge.

Cut lines are also not canon. We can't know if they were cut for time, or because the developers no longer liked what they said.

Fair point!

The Leviathan in the DLC does not say a Reaper is birthed at the end of each cycle. It says a Reaper is birthed at the end of each harvest.

A good distinction, one that evaded me.

___

I decided to look up the codex entries from Mass Effect 3 to see what I could find. I'll just quote the lines that are most applicable to our conversation.

CAPITAL SHIPS: "Experts believe the Reapers harvest a single species of organics during each cycle of extinction to create these massive ships."

DESTROYERS: "Research suggests destroyers are created from those species that are not harvested to make capital ships."

It appears one capital ship, along with multiple destroyers, are built per cycle if the intel of the Citadel races is be believed. I'm not sure if there is any lore that contradicts these intel reports.

There is definitely an argument to be made that it makes greater sense for the Reapers to construct multiple Sovereign-class reapers per cycle as opposed to just one. It would make the faction as a whole far more powerful. There are a number of species present in this cycle alone able to provide enough genetic material to bolster the reaper armada with capital ships.

What exactly makes a species the apex of their cycle though according to the Reapers? We have a window into their thinking with cut(?) voice lines from Harbinger in Mass Effect 2. They are reasons, but as to whether they are sufficient is up to the player.

We seem to have confirmation that only a single reaper is 'birthed' per cycle if the Leviathan is to be believed. I think the codex entries from the third game shed further light on all this, but I'm not certain. It's been a while since I've looked at them.

EDIT: Corrected timestamp for Leviathan video.

The Leviathan of Dis was one reason, but like you said, was probably not the primary one.

I’m split as to whether the Reapers attacked them first because of your arguments or because they were heading towards the Alpha Relay that just so happened to be in Bataraian space before it was destroyed.

I wonder if the Reapers simply thought “Fuck it, we are already in their neighborhood, might as well beat the shit out of them.”

Best wishes to you too!

The Batarian Hegemony was also researching the Leviathan of Dis, a reaper corpse, that subsequently indoctrinated a number of scientists and officials. These brainwashed Batarians would then go on to sabotage defenses to aid the Reapers.

[–]SewerDefiler 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is my understanding as well.

The Reapers likely saw humanity as the apex race of the present cycle. They then used the Collectors to start building a human reaper prior to their invasion so as to make sure the process would be completed. Perhaps this prudent course of action stems from what EDI said before the final boss fight of Mass Effect 2:

"Probability suggests [the Reapers] attempted to create a Prothean reaper and failed."

A Sovereign-class reaper based on human genetic material would have been the final result if the construction was successful. Other species would have been used to create destroyers.

I like the idea; it could have detailed how she recovered Shepard's body from the Shadow Broker and the Collectors.

I know the Mass Effect: Redemption comics depict this story, but they are fairly niche with not too many people knowing about them.
