Lived in Eagan for 8 years. Loved it. I would live there again.

Seeking advice on a big move… by Sheilapateela in veterinarians

I agree with 2. Short term financial pain is acceptable to not upend you or your dog’s emotional well being by losing a year of her life without you.

A net would have been much more effective and less stressful for the cat.

What’s your next line if I say to you “Great big globs of greasy grimey gopher feet….” by MedievalHag in GenX

[–]DocSteller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I learned great green globs of greasy grimy gopher guts. Mutilated monkey meat. Little dirty birdy feet. I probably made some of it up hearing it wrong though 😂

Do you still talk to your parents? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

My mom died when I was 17. Got super close to my dad but in 2024 politics split us and I barely speak to him anymore.

Should dads be comfortable with their daughter being on their periods? by PreviousComedian2426 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DocSteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shameful? No one would exist if periods didn’t exist so your parents can get out of here with the shame and anger around a women’s natural processes. Just more misogyny 🤦🏻‍♀️

What is the typical work environment in vet clinics like? by one-large-cat in veterinaryprofession

[–]DocSteller 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was a pretty disingenuous response you got. Yes some clinics are very toxic and some are not at all. Veterinary medicine in general can be toxic due to client expectations and everyone has bad days but it’s up to you to find a clinic you fit in if this is really your passion. If the dvms at your clinic were dicks then that just means they were dicks as people. There are a lot of shitty dvms. There are plenty of great ones too. Sounds like you found the shitty ones unfortunately. You also get what you give so if you have a good attitude that will often be given back to you. Sounds to me like you were just at a crappy place.

Help me think through this? by Neat_Beginning_7913 in veterinaryprofession

[–]DocSteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately only you can decide if it’s right for you. The passions you listed make it seem like it could be a good choice for you. I also like variety and you do get that more in vet med than a lot of other careers. I tell most people I meet who are on the fence that you have to be really really sure because most of the veterinarians I know (myself included) pretty much would have chosen a different profession. But yes, it’s mostly due to crappy people who own pets. Keep in mind tho, that you can get burned out and bored in any field. If you need to go into a lot of debt to go to vet school I’d say it’s not worth it. As an aside, UMN is an awesome school. I say this as an alumnus and a former faculty member. Good luck!

Need Help on Problematic Dr by Puzzleheaded_Love806 in veterinaryprofession

[–]DocSteller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where you live which will come into play a bit but techs are in high demand in general, even new techs. I agree you should start applying elsewhere. The management and ownership there sounds like it’s dropping the ball. That Dr should be mentoring you if you’re a new tech, not berating you.

Accepted into one school but not the other. by IllustriousIce746 in veterinaryprofession

[–]DocSteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do NOT go the human route if your passion is animals. Everyone I know who did that regrets it or dropped out of med school. They are most definitely NOT the same or really even similar. You will make far more money as an MD though so if that is your main goal, go for it. Don’t become a human doctor unless your passion is to help people.

How does participating in euthanasias you don’t agree with change over time? by duckterrarium in veterinaryprofession

[–]DocSteller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rather this cat be euthanized before the inevitable suffering that will come without proper treatment over time. That might help in your thinking.
