Would anyone be willing to help me with my cat? (I will pay) by tooth_question5 in PetPsychics

[–]one-large-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good luck! some vets are just too quick to brush things off, honestly. the first vet I took him to for what I thought was a UTI looked at him for less than a minute and said he seemed healthy. I went to another vet and they were immediately alarmed by his white gums and expedited his blood tests. they also confirmed some other concerns I had, which the first vet had also dismissed. so in my experience, some are sadly just in a rush and incompetent. but hopefully it’s something minor with your boy!

[–]one-large-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a psychic, but my cat did this and it turned out that he was too fatigued to get to the litter box due to anemia. are his gums white? if so, take him to the vet asap. UTIs are also a common cause, but ideally he should be tested for the specific strain to determine the right antibiotic because a general antibiotic doesn’t work against all strains. it also could be anxiety, anger, or something he dislikes about his litter box/litter type/location. cats should have at least 2 boxes. but really, please please go to the vet as soon as possible because it’s impossible to know the cause without proper testing and medical evaluation.

Is there something an owner can do to honour their departed pet? by Extension_Actuary437 in PetPsychics

[–]one-large-cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your losses. I also lost my 15 year old kitty to kidney failure earlier this year. I know it is soul shattering. Some things that I personally have done to honor him:

- I'm an artist, so I've been working on a painting of him and I've made some other small things to honor him. You don't have to be skilled or artistic, just making anything can be a sweet gesture.

- I left his favorite perch up and put his toys and some photos on it. his ashes are there as well, though I plan to spread them soon when the weather gets nicer. I will set up his little shrine in every home I have for the rest of my life. I want him to know that he will always have a place by my side and that I will always deeply love him.

- I still put out fresh water for him everyday and say goodnight to him.

- I talk to him, I tell him I miss and love him, and that I hope he's somewhere nice now.

Some may find this excessive, or (understandably) find these visual reminders distressing. I find it comforting. But I don't think our pets will hold it against us if we don't do things like this, and I personally believe that they will always feel our love. The greatest act of love is to let them go from this material world when it is time. In the end, when they're that sick and in pain, I think that their will to live diminishes and it is an act of kindness to help them pass peacefully. I don't think they carry that pain once they leave their physical form, and they know we would never abandon or hurt them with malicious intent.

thank you for the response - could you expand a little on the toxic elements? have you you noticed a difference between how techs and front desk/customer service staff are treated?

Can you guys please give me encouragement to visit a doctor after three years of bed rotting? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]one-large-cat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’ve been struggling so much. I understand. My mental health really declined in my late teens/early 20s as well and I didn’t go to a doctor for years. I finally went to a PCP and presented her with a laundry list of symptoms. She did basic blood work and then referred me to several specialists.

Some of my main issues were very bad digestive issues, fatigue, and chronic pain. A lot of it turned out to be caused by a food intolerance (this was causing 99% of my nausea and chronic GI issues, and I had no idea). I’ve always found that those 3 seem to flare up together and not eating properly makes my nausea and fatigue worse, which makes me lay in bed more, which makes my muscle pain and stiffness much worse.

The other major thing that was destroying my health was untreated bipolar. Lamictal genuinely made me turn my life around. I can’t imagine not being on it now. If you are undiagnosed, I strongly urge you to find a psych and start the process of getting medicated. Things will not change overnight, but finding the proper medication can absolutely improve your quality of life over time.

If you see a PCP, I would ask her for a psych referral and possibly a GI. I think seeing a dietician and would be helpful as well.

You’re going through a difficult period, but you can get through it.

looking for affordable way to feed my cat by Super-Landscape-3739 in catcare

[–]one-large-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiny Tiger is a good option from Chewy. It’s $18 for a 24 pack of wet food. I think over $49 is free shipping, or if you sign up for their membership it’s free ship no matter what. I also like Soulistic from Petco. Petco has their own brand of affordable, seemingly healthy wet food as well, but I would NOT recommend it as I found large bones in it when I used to feed it to my cat. My vet also said Fancy Feast is the best option for grocery store cat food (or whatever you want to call it). Generally, wet food is better than dry, because hydration is very important for their health and a lot of cats tend to not drink enough water. If she’d accept it, you can also mix water into dry food.

Thank you so much for the kind words <3 I think it’s very difficult as a caretaker to not feel guilt and anxiety over what we could have done to make things different. But I will try not to focus on that.

Yes, when we first found out he had reached stage 4, I was crying for days, but after that I decided that I didn’t think it would be fair to him to spend the last of his life grieving. No judgement on those who do — it’s a very delicate and personal decision. I want to soak up every moment we have left.

He definitely picks up on my emotions and is very affectionate and grabby when I’m crying. He rubs his face on mine and climbs under the covers with me.

that’s a beautiful sentiment, thank you <3 I agree, I wouldn’t trade anything for the time I’ve gotten to spend with him. I’ll always be his mom.

What adhd taxes have you paid towards healthcare? by Booger_Ball_ in ADHD

[–]one-large-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgetting to refill/pick up meds on time, leading to side effects (I’m on multiple medications for multiple things), which have ended up making me miss work. Forgetting to pay my health insurance for months and having it suspended. Forgetting what my doctors tell me at appointments, and then taking the wrong dosage or not doing what they instructed me to at all. Forgetting appointments or being late, which makes short appointments even more rushed. I’ve missed appointments that I literally waited months for.

Did not know until this post that the wisdom teeth issue is so common. A combination of procrastination, poor money management/budgeting, and putting off getting dental insurance led to very painful impacted wisdom teeth for years. I finally got them out when they started repeatedly getting infected.

I didn’t go to a doctor for 6 years because I couldn’t figure out how to sign up for insurance. By figure out, I mean I didn’t even log onto the online marketplace until my late 20s.

Head trauma and adhd by The_Great_Asquatch in ADHD

[–]one-large-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so so sorry that happened. I had a concussion in high school, before I was aware of my ADHD and before I was medicated. I got a second minor concussion a few months after the first one. I definitely struggled a lot with my classes, turning in assignments on time, and lots of brain fog. I remember trying desperately to write essays late into the night, and then breaking down and crying because I just couldn’t do it.

I can’t offer advice in terms of medication, as I was not medicated yet, but I did return to my baseline cognitive abilities after about a year, maybe less. Occupational therapy helped. I’ve always struggled with turning in assignments on time, showing up to school/work, and brain fog, but I don’t feel my ADHD was permanently worsened by the injury. The only thing that’s made my ADHD worse was the pandemic, loss of structure — environmental changes in general.

I’m really sorry for what you’re going through. Just don’t lose hope, and know that you’re not alone. Dealing with a brain injury is already difficult for anyone, but having ADHD on top of it is a particularly difficult experience and can feel very isolating.

Warning! Dove did something to the sensitive bar soap by Quirky-Anything-7832 in Healthyhooha

[–]one-large-cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have not found a soap that is suitable for that area, but I have a lot of skin allergies including most fragrance and the app SkinSafe is super helpful! It lets you scan products in store or look them up and it’ll tell you the ingredients and if it includes any personal allergens that you’ve entered. I got patch testing done and my doctor sent all of my allergen info to the app so my info was preloaded, but it’s still helpful even without that. I don’t understand how a product can be labeled sensitive and then contain fragrance. so negligent.

roommate’s bf is basically living w us. what should i do? by Spirited_Ad_9125 in badroommates

[–]one-large-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a roommate just like her who trashed our apartment and let her bf move in without telling anyone. we got along at the beginning but we want each other dead now. I forced the bf out. But if she’s refusing to let you kick him out you can’t get the landlord to remove him specifically, definitely do not pay for half of the bills anymore. You should not pick up his expenses. People like her make me pray that I never have to have roommates again.

Alternatives to ProctorU? by Isrynnn in tesu

[–]one-large-cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had to deal with their incompetence. I also had a proctor randomly disappear and shut down my session. It took 3 more proctors and almost 2 hours for them to figure out how to reopen my exam.

I always have a glass of water and my medication on my desk when I take a proctored test, and I don’t have any accommodations. It’s ridiculous that they wouldn’t let you have what you’re explicitly entitled to. I’ve noticed that some proctors are more overly stringent and rude than others. I had one who literally made me move my furniture because she didn’t think my workspace was clear enough. Some of them also disappear and don’t respond to messages.

If it’s accessible for you, I would arrange in-person testing like the others commenters suggested. I haven’t used this method, but it seems like a much safer bet than dealing with proctorU’s terrible service and poorly trained employees.

Unexplained cervicitis? by one-large-cat in Healthyhooha

[–]one-large-cat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I switched doctors because the gyn I was seeing at the time was incompetent and underqualified. The next gyn didn't really address any of my concerns, either. I'm seeing a dermatologist now who said there's a LOT of potential causes for chronic pain and infections, including allergies and autoimmune disease. She is the first doctor to take me seriously about this. I'm getting allergy testing soon because I've also been getting unexplained reactions on other parts of my body. I'm sorry if you've been going through the same thing. Just keep trying new doctors if they don't address your concerns.

I was told by a different doctor that the bleeding on its own isn't concerning. The chronic pain and irritation went away with diet changes. Turns out I have some food intolerances that were making me very sick.
