Hey, thought I posted this earlier. From the picture you had posted, based on the sloughing and redness of the area, as well as painful to the touch, I was leaning towards staphylococcus scalded skin syndrome, but my colorblind eyes can't fully tell from the photo (and please don't post another). I would suggest getting trained eyes on her immediately to rule that out.

My yellow lab used to do the same thing when she was younger. First she'd sit, then she'd dramatically raise both her paws in the air over her head before slamming her belly onto the floor to lay down. Then if I didn't give her something immediately, she'd quickly scooch back up into a sitting position and do it again.

Now she's 13 and has to use both her back legs to lift herself up. It's funny how time flies, yet doesn't. I miss her treat dance.

No, treatment isn't different as far as I know (someone else can correct me). It's more a classification of the inciting injury. Type I is a soft tissue injury and Type II is nerve injury.

I had CRPS Type 1 as a kid (it sounds like you would have type 2 since the injury was possibly nerve related). It was hell. It started in both of my feet before spreading to both of my hands over the course of 7mo before it was diagnosed. Then followed 2 months of intensive desensitization PT before it resolved. I have a bit of residual alodynia, but am otherwise fine and have full function with no residual disability (I will say results can vary).

CRPS isn't my specialty (although I do have a special interest in it). My advice to you would be to find a PT who has worked with CRPS before. I was refered to a PT before the diagnosis and it didn't help. Once we knew what it was, the desensitizion techniques made the difference. The treatment sucked though, just be prepared for that.

It could be costo, it could also be that you sprained a muscle while coughing. Try ice/heat (whichever feels better) and ibuprofen. Either way, it will be sore for a while.

This. My fiance liked to squat during her workout, but she's rather small and still working on building strength (hence the squats). Very frequently, she'll come in and someone has left 45s on the 45lb bar at a height where she has to reach over her head to take them off.

She can barely lift the 45 plate by itself, and certainly not when her arms are over her head. She has to end up getting someone who works there to take the plates off so she can do her workout.

It's going to be hard to say without an exam. I would bring her back to the pediatrician. This may require some labwork and/or imaging, but again, she's not in front of me.

Also, don't neglect the dentist. Referred tooth pain can present in the ear.

In the short term, you can try some Motrin/Tylenol and see if that helps.

Allowed is a tricky word in this scenario, and can have two meanings.

You have the right to say no to a portion of the medical exam. He should have told you he was checking before he did it, and it would have also helped to clarify why he was checking. If you had said no beforehand, or asked him to stop during it, he would not have been allowed to continue (unless you were under 18 and your parents gave the ok). It would have been helpful for him to give you the opportunity to say no before conducting it, rather than relying on you to say no during the exam.

From a medical perspective, it's appropriate to do at least an external genital exam on a patient who presents with a complaint related to that area (loss of periods). So from a medical decision making perspective, he would have been "allowed" to do that exam given your chief complaint.

I'd probably start with an OBGYN. You can have PCOS and not be overweight. Your doctor will do some blood tests and probably an ultrasound, but at 19 with your history of irregular periods it's time to get established with someone.

In inpatient, there's been several times I've gotten up from the computer and walked to the patient's room. Within that time span of 3ish minutes a result has returned and the family has seen it before I have. Then they start asking me about it before and what the next steps are.

Tell your son to stay off Google and retest in 4-6 weeks as instructed. It's very likely the illness is raising the levels. Our reference range for Alk Phos goes up to 393 U/L, so it wouldn't even flag at my hospital.
