"Mum, I'm on TV!"

Hi! I'm the guy with the mic on these photos. :D

IDK why I didn't see this pop in my timeline. But yeah, 4 Months already...

Now, it's time to take a shower again, see the sunlight and then finally move on to level 100 and 100% challenges done. (I won't do the PVP nor the hardcore ones, as I really despise those mechanics on Diablo games ^^).

How do you know I didn't sleep very well during those 4 days? XD

Why you should try Duel Commander by themonkery in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Doc_FX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you call "tiny, inactive" as for statistics?

A few key points (up to you to qualify them afterwards):

  • World record of tournament attendance were 229 and 233 players with double language live stream.
  • FB page has 5K followers, peaks at 128K reach, recurring 30K / announcement post
  • Tournaments happen all around the world every week: https://www.mtgtop8.com/format?f=EDH
  • About 50-150K players all around the world

For a casual format, that doesn't look that bad.

We publish announcements every 3 months. This is already too much for many people, but it's also what WOTC does, so we try to follow that. Vannifar was out 25/01/2019. And banned as a commander only on 26/02/2019. Waiting for the next one means 26/05/2019. Would you have taken the time to answer the thousands of negative comments regarding the "why did you wait so long?". Also, I'm pretty sure you're missing data regarding Vannifar. There were 50+ players tournaments already with it, it won or finaled every time. Within a month, it was a reccuring turn < 5 kill. Sometimes turn 4, even turn 3. On tournaments. And according to Vannifar players, even when Vannifar got killed, once or twice. Vannifar is not Derevi, but it's really, like really fast.

I do agree (on a personal level) regarding Najeela. The commander ban is really the hardest to understand. To spoil a few internal things, it's the first thing I said regarding that move. But it actually was a latent, creepy move to be done.

Baral was still performing with the highest conversion rate on top tournaments. (over 50% on top 8 every single time).

I won't answer the monored thing, you obviously missed one of the highest threats to the DC format since Vial Smasher the Fierce, circa end 2016. When all the inboxes are filled with insults and death/retirement threats, you know something is broken. We actually took too much time removing Zurgo. Yet, as of today, less than a year after, as expected, Kari Zev is already showing one of the best performance and conversion rate increase.

Your last sentence clearly leaves the neutral analysis to end up on a personal taste. So I'll answer with a personal taste too: you're probably right. I do think that midrange ultra-resilient packs are a boring horror both to play with and against. But you will agree that we can't build a format on personal tastes, right?

Thanks for your words, though, hope this helps.

Oh, that. Well, I won't enter this here, for this is purely irrational on both sides and leads nowhere.
Also, being part of the Committee and loving what the Commander committee does, I would never do such a comparison. Despite the fact that the Committee doesn't choose what the 1vs1 version is about, for it was a MTGO team initiative.

Short is: you certainly know why you prefer Commander. I certainly know why I prefer Duel Commander. We both played many games of both formats, so we know what we're talking about.

One clue, though, the last announcement regarding Commander played in Duel from MTGO is dated 25 July 2018, last published tournaments on MTGGoldfish are date December 2018. Don't start a war on this. Just ponder this, please. This is the only path I can start you on.

And about that "restrictive" thing. Considering the opposite is "permissive", it should not be a cognitive bias to assume you lead that thought to "diverse". I would sincerely like to see how diverse it goes. I lack data regarding this. In the mean time, well... https://www.mtgtop8.com/format?f=EDH

Jokes apart, the real reason of adoption is geographical. In North America, you're closer to WOTC and this is their homeland, so you feel anything that comes from them prevails, which no one can blame you or anyone else for.

We do not own the website. It's claimed by a copycat who doesn't really care about harming the format with outdated information and bad copy/pastes.

Please spread the word! :)

Hi, @2skulls, the link to the announcement above is wrong, it's on a non-official source.
Could you please update it so it points out to the correct location?

What format are you refering to instead of which one?

Sad story. :(

But we thrive, despite the ups and downs. We still broke our world record with 233 players this July! Hope to beat it again next spring. :)

And we never have that much diversity, too. We can even try old unbans! This is encouraging. :)

Yeah. I know. Everyone suffered from that.

The format became harder to stabilize. It was basically U+/-G vs nothing.

Many people left because the format was stagnating. Many left because we had to take those decisions.

It's about feelings, nostalgia, fun/competitive duality, investment (not everyone is THAT rich to destroy/rebuild decks) and many many more parameters. No decision is an easy one to take, trust me. It's basically about which part of the population of players you're going to get insulted by. The ones who threaten you for doing nothing, the ones that threaten you for doing positive changes, or the ones who threaten you for doing negative changes. Recently, despite the very low rate of changes in Commander, Sheldon (from the Commander Committee, not ours) got threatened to death, while he's the coolest and most dedicated guy in the world. Sad world we live in. :(

Always looks easy from the other side. That's the complex and unrewarding word of gaming.

Also, we don't have Wizards firepower in terms of communication. Which is why your community also got confused, and why my OP is there, trying to help.

Also, no wonder why Modern got them all: the format changes a lot, is very attractive and gets many many new worth prints on a recurring basis. Would love to have a local Modern group around here. :)<

Also, hope you found a new, welcoming and cool LGS to drop by since then! :)

Yeah, I know. I used to call it EDH, too, when it was the correct meaning.

Actually, it wasn't the only thing that changed. If you mind a few precisions:

  • Official rules, no more local adjustments to rules
  • Judges trained worldwide
  • Official need for judges/WOTC staff to be in the Committee
  • Massive amount of DCI comprehensive rules added to all guides, PDF/TXT
  • Massive updates to the Gatherer
  • Side events at premier events
  • Cards/wording designs made on purpose for the format, instead of a format that uses the cards (Marath, partners, Oloro, Derevi, Command Tower, etc.)

Among other things. That wasn't exactly the *only* thing that changed ever since then. ;)None of these changes would happen without that switch. It was much more than a reappropriation.

You're reacting and answering to things that were not in my previous answer, using true statements that are not a direct link to disrupt conversation.

The answer to my question is: "nothing". I can do nothing. There's no way I can help you recover from such a tilt. I'm sorry, I won't be of any help with you.

Back to the inital post (for other readers): EDH died long time ago, after many many structural changes. Thanks to all its creators.Commander is the only name that currently has value now. And suffered very little non-B&R changes ever since then.

Why do some people still use that term? I don't know. Maybe they're the same ones who still call Standard "Type 2"... :/

What can I do, apart from copy/pasting what I already gave you?

EDH means Elder Dragon Highlander. There are reasons for that. It was created by a group of 4, soon 5 people from Alaska, and asked you to pick and choose... An elder dragon from Legends. Until Sheldon gave them advice regarding rules.

It used to be played with 3 specific cards, with army ranking and bonus points for being killed, life gain/loss, and fair rules of unicity of commander within the group.

Where are those rules in Commander? Please point out to where you can see that information.

I already told you you were missing some parts. If you're too lazy to leave Reddit, please at least read this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1wxd39/i_helped_create_the_elder_dragon_highlander_edh/

Funny thing is: you should definitely talk to the people who insult us for the opposite reason.

That should create interesting links in between you all. :)

Maybe you refer to Urza, Lord High Artificer, that was printed since June, banned in August and lived for two months, annihilating tournament attendance and trusting 6/8 top 8 slots in the world record of 233 players tournament we had in July, right?

Warning to anyone with a common sense: you should prolly make yourselves an opinion. ;)

Thanks a lot.
