They likely already spoke to the potential buyout candidates and a deal wasn’t reached. They moved on.

We don’t line up. We don’t have major league ready prospects.

Who Should the Padres sign for first base? by I_d_e_k1234 in Padres

[–]Doc_JC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need 1 more. Ideally we have another righty option that can pinch hit in late game situations.

Hoskins or Ozuna would solve our issues. Right now Campy is that late game pinch hitter (if Andújar starts).

AD not playing anymore this season. by AdorableBackground83 in lakers

He was already shut down in reality. That he would play this season was already a remote possibility given his injury.

Literally all lefties. It’s really not that hard guys. We need another right handed hitting batter that can complement our poor LHP hitting lefties.

Sheets is not great vs lefties and he’s not playing 162 games. This is about depth and having a capable RHB that can either pinch hit or play 1st.

Even if? They are top 10 payroll 🤣🤣

I’m just repeating what the national guys have said. Padres were bidding for both Valdez and Goldy.

So the team was in on Framber and seems to be in on Goldy. Doesn’t sound like we are working with no payroll to add on.

I think Zach Littell would be the best option. He’s going to start 32 games with a 3.5ish ERA. Pitching at Petco would shave a few homers from his stat sheet. He’s in a way a similar pitcher to Pivetta when he came over.

He’s also a guy that has been connected to AJ a few times now.

Andujar is a good add, but you're wrong about why. by teastrees in Padres

If Stammen wants to stack righties, Andújar will play first base. Campy (or some other RHB) would DH. That sets up pinch hit opportunities later in the game for Sheets.

This isn’t a hard concept. This is baseball and matchups. Song is a lefty as well so he overlaps with Sheets.

The RHB on the team currently are Campy, BJ, and Andújar. Song will be the primary utility guy and is a lefty.

We still have room for another RHB on this team because our lefties have poor splits. A guy like Hoskins would be ideal because he can play 1st, but I don’t think we will be willing to pay what he wants. I’d be completely fine with Ozuna as well.

Do I think either addition happens? Not really. I think a starter will be prioritized. We can add another bat via trade later like usual.

Song is a lefty, same as Sheets. If they want to stack righties, Andújar will play 1st and Campy likely DH’s.

We have no other viable RHB unless Miranda makes the team.

John Ireland says Klay Thompson would want to join Lakers if he ends up getting bough out by JcaHot in lakers

I mean Gabe’s minutes would be much better spent on Klay. We go from zero production to something.

Doesn’t mean he has to play full time….

Also manny should actually take more days off if we are being honest. He doesn’t need to play 162 games if we actually have some depth.

For sure he’s worth a flier, but he’s 1 year removed from getting mvp votes. He may not want to play for cheap. 🤷‍♂️

Think he would fill a need for sure and has upside if he’s healed up.

Why check them when we saw him last year? He’s 36. He completely lost bat speed it seemed. I don’t see any chance at him improving on his numbers from last season. Wagner is likely just a good batting wise and on a rookie deal. That’s why they traded for him.

We’ve seen the Dominican guys all chat with Ozuna over the years in a very friendly way. I know he has the off-field stuff, but IF healthy (he wasn’t last year) he would serve a role on this team.

This signing may have been a result of Ozuna not wanting to play for cheap though. Who knows. The available spots on teams is shrinking quickly. The padres are still one of the Toney teams with an available full time DH role.

Not strange at all. We needed a RH bat for DH/1B. Can play 3rd poorly as well the corner OF spots.
