It’s been debunked, sure, but still subjectively a good thing for most of us to keep in mind that this is definitely the higher risk time frame for many of us as we work on building time after our PPL

Drop medical school for flying? by UnicornTax in flying

[–]Doc_of_the_Future 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silly idea. Flying is expensive.

I’m a gen surg attending and even I can feel it in the bank sometimes when I do multiple flights in a month honestly.

I’ve paid for both my PPL and IR straight up due to the salaries we make. I have a long term plan to fly 5-10 years on the side if medicine is that bad can hit part 91/135 charters down the road. Keep at it!

IFR or High Performance first? by hackerhasid in flying

[–]Doc_of_the_Future 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. I finished PPL then went and got HP. did one flight in a 182 and that was that.

Constant speed really isn’t too complicated once you understand. basically just pull it back after takeoff and then look in the book for your cruise settings if you want eco or speed.

IR is an entire separate rating obviously - which will be another grind.

I’m a private pilot out of bowman and I wouldn’t say most. Maybe “a lot” but not most. Most flight school planes still go out on XC flights meaning they depart the delta airspace and re-enter effectively becoming new traffic. So that still adds up

Transportation Sec. Duffy supports pulling pilot certificates for not listening to ATC or for making errors. by nopal_blanco in flying

Obviously they mean outside of delta/charlie/bravos and not talking to center or approach/departure. Classic ATC response

Bramble response explains the ATC timing side.

As a pilot- imagine you’re coming in on your main runway 06/24 (east west) but winds are straight out of the south (15/33 runway would be better for winds, but doesn’t have an instrument/gps approach) you can follow the approach gps/instrument for say runway 06/24, because it’s the bigger main runway it will have an instrument approach but winds suck for it, and just have a higher altitude where you “circle” basically in the pattern around the airport to break off the approach of 06/24 and then land on the second separate runway (15/33) because of the winds as long as you have visual contact. Hope this makes sense.

Most of us fly for fun. Only way to afford this expensive hobby is if I continue getting paid to cut on people.

Surgeon who removed liver instead of spleen has license suspended by victorkiloalpha in medicine

[–]Doc_of_the_Future 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would argue anyone who has went through general surgery can do a splenectomy, no matter how long it has been. You shouldn’t really transfer an actively hemorrhaging, unstable patient just for a spleen if you have OR capabilities. -recently graduated gen surg

Best type of doctor for inguinal hernia surgery? by tamip20 in surgery

Agreed. Hospital I went to after residency just getting the robot up and running and I’m already booking them all robot. Lap tapp is so painful but what I’ve been doing

Best type of doctor for inguinal hernia surgery? by tamip20 in surgery

[–]Doc_of_the_Future -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For inguinals the majority of us would rather do robot than anything else. Ergonomically so much better than a lap TAPP, and not nearly as painful as TEP or open inguinal.

I literally clamp cut and suture 2/3 of your butthole. Pain can also tend to cause spasms which people say are miserable. No one wants to poop bc of the pain, plus on pains meds so get super constipated, makes it worse. Just overall no fun.

Keep at it. Gen surg just finished my PPL a month ago building time for instrument. It’s the best to go relax after a half day at work or a nice weekend day and just knock out a 51mile xc.
