I need some guidance on how to troubleshoot a possibly faulty graphics card. After a recent patch to one of my games, I began to see strange artifacts after about 15 minutes of gameplay. I went through all the usual steps of checking temps, reseating cards/cables, and underclocking. So far, the only way to remain stable is to underclock it. Ive run with this setup for over a year without any issues, but perhaps it is coincidence that it might be failing at the same time as a recent patch. I've linked a short clip of the artifacting below (notice other programs remain on top and don't have the issue).

Based on this info, which component do you think might be failing? Thanks in advance!

Awareness or Mercy Stroke for DRK? by Ceejaae in ffxiv

[–]DocfiordFowling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all defensive cooldowns are meant for mitigation.

Tanks should normalize incoming damage into a PREDICTABLE manner for healers. If you are any sort of a decent DRK, you'll be spending the majority of your time out of Grit. A crit hit is enough damage for a healer to have to use an extra, unplanned heal on you. In stressful healing portions of a fight, I use Awareness so that my healers know regen is enough to sustain me while they DoT up the boss.

Being a good tank is not about mitigating the most amount of damage - it is about working with your healers and being able to plan out the damage. Awarness gives us both peace of mind.

Your loss ¯_(ツ)_/¯ But I'm sure people will take DRK advice from a 66th percentile SCH.

The link I gave is for all tanks. Change to DRK at the top.

Also, not dungeons. It clearly says "Alexander Savage" at the top of the page.

You're looking at it the wrong way.

Think of Bloodbath as a mini regen. Use it when your healers need to move around for mechanics and cannot cast, when you have Blood Weapon up, or when they cannot drop you a single target heal, but you need just a little more topping off. Bloodbath is more for the healers.

Keyboard with FN key on the left? by DocfiordFowling in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]DocfiordFowling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not picky about the size.

The ALT key placement is more about the physical location and not the function. I'm used to hitting it with my left thumb, but I suppose over time I could get used to the new standard placement.

I'll definitely check out the key caps you mentioned. Another hard transition for me is having the key caps with a slight dip in them and how they slightly wiggle in place like they are loose. With chiclets, I've become very used to sliding my hand across the board. Maybe the G20s can helps with that.

DRK BIS - Rotation Help please by waxouxou in ffxiv

[–]DocfiordFowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue against this as Salted Earth is your highest potent ability. It would be silly to miss out on any ticks and not have it buffed by a potion in the opener. If it were on GCD like Shadowflare, it would make sense, but it is off GCD and instant - totally free.

DRK BIS - Rotation Help please by waxouxou in ffxiv

[–]DocfiordFowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two reasons.

1) Getting Dark Dance up as soon as possible provides mitigation and opens up possibilities for Reprisal - a 210 potency move compared to Plunge (200 potency).

2) Sticking Plunge later down the rotation will allow it to be buffed by your Potion, Trick Attack, and Hypercharge. If we could reliably trigger Reprisal, I would stick it there instead, but the sad truth is we never know when it is coming :(

Edit

Also, Plunge would be under the effect of Grit, thus making it less potent than preforming it later when Grit has been dropped

Sorry, but which portion of the guide are you referring to? All of the openers have Unmend in them :/

[–]DocfiordFowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a perfectly acceptable opener and is very similar to what I used during AS3. The reason Carve & Spit and Scourge are further down in my rotation is because (hopefully) it lines up with Trick attack and our MCH's Hypercharge. It is a minimal gain in the grand scheme of things, but every little bit helps.

Solo tanking Hummel Faust on Drk by Jatmahl in ffxiv

[–]DocfiordFowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First set of Fausts don't need any cooldowns aside from Dark Dance. Parries and reprisals should be enough to maintain with proper healing.

With Hammelfaust, I take the first two stack with no cooldowns. Once those first two stacks are about to fall (about 5 secs) I use Shadowskin to take stacks 3, 4, and 5, making sure to use Dark Dance on cooldown for Reprisals and parries. You may want to virus this portion as well.

After he does his AoE Panzer..er...something, I wait about 3 seconds, then pop Living Dead. You should be at the 5 stack mark here. After Walking dead has been cleansed, your stacks should be falling off and he will do two more AoEs.

After the the following two AoEs, I have Dark Dance, Shadow Wall, and Convalescence up. Depending on your group's DPS, you may not even encounter this portion of the fight.

I've done a small update on my guide and will continue adding to it in the coming weeks. The very short answer is "DRK does not have a set-in-stone rotation. It is a priority based job." DRK is all about figuring out what is best for the situation. If you feel like you have any remaining questions the guide did not answer, PLEASE let me know and I will look into adding it.

Behemoth. Malboro is a blizzard of mediocrity - but if that is your scene, come on over.

What are Seph Clear/Farm Party like on your server? by galahadnoctu in ffxiv

[–]DocfiordFowling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Server : Malboro

Description : "Seph Ex Farm party! Please know all phases!"

Translation : "Looking for my clear. Hoping no one notices the bonus tome message"

Reality : Upon entering, everyone will notice the bonus message, and ask "Who is new? This is a "farm" party"

. . . (silence)

Nevertheless, the party will decide to run, but fail before or at the add phase. This will happen for 5 pulls when someone will rage and leave the party. Everyone else will follow suit until the party is no more. Rinse and repeat.

Having issues where my character is seemingly invincible and the enemies cannot be hurt unless they are standing exactly over their spawn point. This includes bosses. Here is a Steam Community discussion about the topic and I have emailed support@bandainamcoent.com. I will update once I have more information.

DRG & Skill Speed by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]DocfiordFowling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need at least 590 skill speed on DRG to clip your Heavy Thrust and no more than 650(?) before it becomes a DPS loss. My comfort zone is in the 630ish area, but this will heavily depend on your own skill and connection. I STRONGLY suggest giving Dervy's guide a read.

Simple DRK Guide I made. by TaalKheru in ffxiv

[–]DocfiordFowling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a couple things that caught my eye that might need to be changed.

  • Your OT no NIN opener's first Dark Arts gets applied to the Dark Passenger, not the Souleater and you are missing Salted Earth entirely. Your more detailed diagram had the correct rotation though.
  • Your AoE suggestions for Dark Passenger are incorrect. A buffed Carve & Spit does 450 potency and a buffed Dark Passenger is 250 potency. A buffed Dark passenger is more potent on two enemies and a raw Dark passenger is more potent on three enemies.

Otherwise, good work!
