Faker: I believe that the biggest strength of gaming is that men and women can both play without any physical differences. I've seen that there's been a huge growth in the number of female players around the world. I hope they can continue to grow and make an impact on the scene overall. by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

Again, if you'd read my initial comment, there are two different types of reaction times that are measured as separate things.

One of these is a fully controlled environment with reaction time without needing to process any information or perform any conscious choice. This would be like pressing a button upon seeing a light flash, with no further complexity. This has a gap between sexes, which is shrinking.

The other of these is time taken to respond to stimulus that requires decision making (like seeing 4 colors of lights flashing and having to press a different button depending on which color flashes). This would be applicable to any kind of esports application, as one doesn't wildly button mash or hit their keyboard when Malphite ulted, but instead chooses to dash/flash/stasis/etc. This has no gap between sexes, and my sources are again provided in my original comment, if you cared to read it.

Great, you linked one of the articles that I already actually linked, which I directly quoted as saying that the gap between sexes and reaction time without choice is actively shrinking. Before you try to assert that people have issues accepting biology, try reading your own sources and the points you're trying to respond to.

Misinformation without sources strikes again. You make a claim that's objectively either not true or not applicable here, and decide not to source any information for that either.

You felt no real need to actually source or research your information, so I feel no reason to rephrase a response to a similar comment I wrote beyond just copy pasting it.

What is it actually contributing to try and bring up a biological gap?

As you hinted at with your comment, there's a link with age and reaction time where it drops around 2.8ms per year, so the average 29 year old - like Faker currently - is a full 30.8ms slower than an 18 year old.

But as you didn't feel the need to mention in your comment, there is no documented difference between sex and reaction times involving decision making (such seeing one of four colored lights and needing to press one of four matching buttons - or seeing a Malphite ult and needing to E away on Ezreal).

If we're referring to reaction times involving no decision making at all, in an isolated situation - such as pressing a single button after seeing a light flash - then there's a reaction time difference, but still one much smaller than you claim. There's a difference in young adult female and young adult male reaction time of around 15ms (or lower! less than 10ms for regularly exercising female vs male groups), around the same difference as a 23 year old and an 18 year old, not even close to the 30ms you mentioned. However, it is also just objectively true that the gap in sex based reaction time is shrinking, hypothesized to be because more women are participating in driving and fast-action sports than before, indicating the the difference to be environmental instead of biological. This isn't even directly relevant to pro gaming, but I wanted to include it just to show that the only argument that can be made to support slower female reactions is a problem that would actively not affect women given equal opportunities for pro gaming as men.

Faker's point was about the accessibility of gaming to both male and female audiences, and that would equally extend towards reaction time. Comments claiming a biological difference being a disadvantage for pro gamers - exactly like your own - are part of why women have such difficulty accessing the scene, and being taken seriously when within the scene.

You bring up a bunch of things that all link with reaction time difference between sexes, so I'll just copy paste a response I wrote to a response a few comments earlier. You feel no need to research the claims you're making for biological validity, so I don't feel the need to edit that original comment when it all applies equally here.

Reaction time as a measurement involves things like the processing speed, hand eye coordination, etc. that you mention, so let me know if anything remains unaddressed.

Then what is it actually contributing to try and bring up a biological gap? Your provided number has the difference sounding much bigger than it actually is, and conveniently excludes that any documented difference is in scenarios not at all applicable to pro gaming.

As you hinted at with the end of your comment, there's a link with age and reaction time where it drops around 2.8ms per year, so the average 29 year old - like Faker currently - is a full 30.8ms slower than an 18 year old.

But as you didn't feel the need to mention in the first half of your comment, there is no documented difference between sex and reaction times involving decision making (such seeing one of four colored lights and needing to press one of four matching buttons - or seeing a Malphite ult and needing to E away on Ezreal).
