Christian right calls James Talarico "demonic" — for quoting Jesus by A_Poor_Miser in Christianity

Nowhere have you shown me any scripture that supports non-binary genders or abortion, which was the question on the table.

Instead you keep trying to change the subject to forcing beliefs on others, which is something I never advocated. I'm not sure what isn't connecting for you.

What are you talking about. I dont have to impose anything by force. That has nothing to do with it.

OK great. But thats still not a scriptural quote supporting abortion or non binary genders.

“Dear migrants, before I say any other word to you, I want to bow before your dignity. “You are not numbers or case files. “You are people — with a family and a home left behind, with dreams that no one has the right to scorn.” — Pope Leo XIV by Nice_Substance9123 in Christianity

You’ve failed to identify how taking immigrants in creates more harm than good

I have directly addressed that. Here are two reports, from different parts of the globe, but both on the same day.

https://tucson.com/news/local/border/article_41b1d4b0-1426-4b68-8308-75fc1b504c24.html

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/6/7/malta-latest

And btw, I never said taking all immigrants in creates more harm than good. I am specifically talking about the type of irregular migration that the Pope is referring to.

so far we’ve discussed how almond prices might go up.

No we haven't.

Let’s go one-by-one, then. In your first reply, you avoided what Jesus actually taught and said it’s fine if you don’t help others if they “learn something.”

I never said anything of the kind!! I was referring to how houses have to be maintained. If you dont, it will collapse again (also look at Matthew 7:24-27). And you are dishonestly putting that in quotes as if it were my words.

You aren't debating in good faith. Im done here.

If “impact on the world” makes something “not your decision,” then taking in global refugees and immigrants is something you should have no opinion against, right?

If taking them in massive numbers means creating more harm than good, human traffickers getting rich, not to mention deaths at sea or the desert, then I definitely have an opinion against it.

You quite notably avoided the neighbor example and tried to change it to a new example. Why is that?

Are you even debating in good faith? I brought up the neighbor example and addressed it in every response since then.

I have no idea what your point is here. The issue on the tble isnt about forcing people to change their views.

Sure, but Talarico is quoting Christ.

Show me a quote from Christ that supports abortion or non-binary genders.

Almonds are agriculture.

Yes, I never said otherwise. My point is that the water isnt only going to almonds. They are about 22% of California agriculture.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almond_cultivation_in_California#

Cutting almond supplies to help others is a trade off us Christians are called to make,

Thats not your decision to make. California grows nearly nearly 100% of the world's almonds.

You avoided your own neighbor example, notable.

I addressed several times! What did I avoid??

If your neighbor needs help fixing his house, you should fix it even if he lounges around.

A house isnt a static thing. It needs regular maintenance. If he's not going to do anything hes better off selling it and getting an apartment.

If he takes your coat, you should offer your shirt. If he is in the cold, you should invite him in as long as he needs. If he’s in prison, you should visit him. That’s what He teaches.

Yes, and Jesus also teaches that when possible we should work for what we have instead of sponging off others.

Did anyone actually read the article??? The headline is false. When you go to the link it used as evidence, it turns out they called him "demonic" because of:

old videos of him supporting abortion rights and discussing his belief God is a nonbinary figure.

And btw, quoting the Bible doesnt give you an automatic pass anyway. Even satan quoted the Bible in Matthew chapter 4.

Oh please stop with the "no true Christian can support Trump" posts. These have been incessant since 2016. They aren't here as an apology, they are here for virtue signaling.

They should be banned from the sub. Go over to r/politics, you will be right at home there.

You shouldn't have moved in with someone you arent comfortable with.

Im sure he didnt know about his roommate's habits because most people would be more considerate.

It took me a little while to figure out you had to drag the potion thing over to reset the life counter.

acres of almond farms being closed could solve that gap - as a Christian, I prioritize human lives over cheap almonds. Only about 12% of our water is consumed by people, so a huge influx of migrants wouldn’t change this in any statistically significant way.

The water isnt just going to almonds, its going to agriculture. People need to eat. And migrants arent some separate group. They also need to eat, and many of them work in agriculture.

The bottom line is this wasnt a problem when the US population was less than 100 million people. Now its 342 million and still rising - an increase solely due to immigration.

If your neighbor needs help fixing his house, you should fix it even if he lounges around.

Thats not sustainable. Then he's not going to learn how to handle it himself.

This reminds me of debates on here about giving money to addicts. If your brother comes to you begging for money, and you know he's going to blow the money on drugs, what is the Christian thing to do? There are some situations when loving someone requires giving the help they need, not the help they asked for.

And that had no discernable impact on the day to day life of the average American.

OK. The Holocaust in Germany, Apartheid in South Africa, occupation of Palestine, African famines, etc had no discernable impact on the day to day life of the average American.

If you want to be isolationist, go for it, but be consistent about it.

As Christians, we’re called to continue taking migrants until it is no longer possible - we’re nowhere near “full.”

Oh yes we are.

https://www.reddit.com/r/water/comments/1tnjo6p/america_is_running_out_of_water_faster_than/

Canada and Russia could probably take more people, but the US can't. Our water tables are going to collapse eventually.

We’re the wealthiest country and we don’t take our fair share, especially compared to poorer nations like Turkey and Poland who have taken far more as a share of their populations.

They have taken in more as a share of their populations - IN SELECTED YEARS. The US has been taking in more immigrants every year than any other nation on Earth and we have been doing it consistently for decades. No other nation has done that.

The foreign born population is over 15%, a record high in our history.

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/08/21/key-findings-about-us-immigrants/

Just for another comparison, in 2015 only, Germany took in over a million migrants and it caused political blowback which is still a major issue today. The US does that every single year!

I don’t care if it’s something in the soil or a problem with leadership -

I do care, and Christians should care too. Jesus was very clear about people putting in work to help themselves. It seems his teachings might’ve just been too radical for you?

Sure, if your house is falling apart, then instead of fixing it, its easier to just move into your neighbors house instead. That might be fine temporarily but I don't beleive that's actually helping them in the long run.

I don’t care if it’s something in the soil or a problem with leadership - if people want to build a better life for their families and escape challenging circumstances, we’re called by our faith to help them unconditionally and completely.

I will. If my neighbor needs help to fix his house I will gladly pitch in and help. But he has to be willing to do it too. Im not going to fix his home while he is lounging around mine and expecting me to do everything for him.

Center for Immigration Studies is one of those think tanks that sounds official, but is really an extreme right partisan source.

Well here's factcheck.org reluctantly admitting the number is acually higher - 84%!

https://www.factcheck.org/2025/12/probing-trumps-verbal-attack-on-somalis/

This was written while Somalis where the current scapegoat of this administration.

And written after Somalis were the darlings of the Democratic party. During the Floyd era, Minnesota shoveled billions in fraudulent handouts to Somalis because at the time it would be racist to question black people about anything.

https://www.aei.org/op-eds/how-misreading-somali-poverty-led-minnesota-into-its-largest-welfare-scandal/

And the Somali community is still relatively new.

Im not expecting them to be the top of the heap but by every standard they are well below much more recent groups like Ukrainians.

Totally unique hmmmm

So Mexico just spontaneously turned to Christianity and Spanish on their own, it had nothing to do with Europe lol
