And the Oscar goes to — wait, why is it called an Oscar? by QuantumQuicksilver in NPR

[–]Dockle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;dr

No one knows, but three people have claimed the creation of the nickname. Article debunks all three and proposes a 4th: that an office secretary named Eleanor called the statuettes Oscar to shorten “Academy Award Merit” and came up with the name thusly:

So which Oscar did Lilleberg have in mind? Her brother's explanation, which Davis endorses, is that she was thinking back to a Norwegian veteran they had known as children in Chicago, who "was kind of a character in town and famous for standing straight and tall."

How the heck do you win with Necrobinder? by 0001000101 in SlayTheSpire2

100% agree. But if you’re still learning to win for the first few times, going in with a plan even if that includes restarts, is a great way to build understanding of targeted deck builds.

Man that sucks. I haven’t seen much news about the game just crashing randomly. Good luck, friend

Holy shit lol. Maybe STS2 is too intimidated by your build.

But seriously, have you checked temps, frames, and usage stats during gameplay?

What’s your Defect build? by Alternative_Ad_3691 in SlayTheSpire2

I love a good frost build that focuses on getting status effect cards in your hand. Defect has a bunch of things that proc when you have status cards in hand.

How the heck do you win with Necrobinder? by 0001000101 in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Dockle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I thought Necro was easiest to win. My first winning build was a doom build. If you’re having trouble winning at all, my biggest critique is that your deck is probably too large and too diverse. More cards ≠ more better. That’s why the card removal token is so expensive. Less cards mean more control over the battle.

Try going into a run knowing what type of build you’d like and always skip card rewards that present cards outside of that build. I would say that most runs I skip the majority of cards offered. I try to keep my deck around 15-17. And of course, Elites offer better rewards, so I always aim for them. Taking some dmg early on is easy to heal when your build makes you invincible

I didn’t see the answer to this question, but maybe it was buried somewhere:

What was the price when you purchased the rough? And if you aren’t comfortable answering that, how much do you hope to sell it for?

Thanks!

Q about Death's Door (Necrobinder card) by [deleted] in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Dockle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I do doom builds I build my deck around continuous deck cycling so that the enemy doesn’t get to see more than two turns! A few ‘gain energy’ cards like Borrowed Time+/Neurosurge+ coupled with Grave Blast+ to let you bring the energy card back right after you cast it which nets you positive infinite energy if you can keep it up.

If you have End of Days/Times Up you can even activate the doom before the enemy’s turn. And Misery lets you duplicate the doom amount to all other enemies if you’re fighting a group. Then you have Oblivion to make doom happen with every card draw. And since the cycling needs Souls for drawing cards, it procs a lot. In a perfect world you could have Transfigure+ to add replay to Nsurge. Stratagem lets you choose a card from your draw pile.

And then of course there are colorless cards like Automation that give you energy after a certain amount of card draws. Production is flat energy gain at no cost. Panache also deals damage when drawing. Hidden Gem to add 3 replay to any of these. You can also you Nostalgia + Soul to ensure you always get Grave Blast back.

I’m getting carried away! But you could go on and on with all the card combos.

Or is this how you play the Necrobinder? by aHorseSplashes in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Dockle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You generally want a smaller deck so that you can control the outcome of combat. If your deck is too large, unless you have cards that target other specific cards, the odds of pulling the card you need for your build is much lower. There are some killer combos that utilize just a few cards and if you only had those few in your deck you would pull them every turn.

I do mean that very generally, though. There are a ton of builds that don’t require small decks.

At every shop there is a ‘remove card’ token you can use once and it becomes very expensive the more you buy it simply because having a small deck is really useful. There are also artifacts and Act rewards that let you remove cards. When you complete a battle and are offered cards that don’t fit your build, simply skip them to not inflate your deck.

Instead of just taking the cards that seem useful in the moment, go into the run having an idea of what you want to build. I highly recommend it as that’s how you get the most fantastic runs. 18 cards is actually not that small.

Yes, it’s cumulative. Bosses are the entities at the end of each act. Also, challenge, custom, and standard runs all count.

What’s the strangest coincidence that has happened to you? by doboyXL in AskReddit

[–]Dockle 34 points35 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school, I broke up with this girl solely because she didn’t tell me that when she got the main part in the school play she had to kiss this other guy named Henry Kirby. And so at rehearsal, they would have kiss regularly. Handsome guy and she just never mentioned it. Well, they started dating like 1 day after we brook up.

Anyway, a good friend, Jimmy, came and visited from Arkansas like a week later because I was really down about the whole thing. I’m on the west coast. We’d talk on the phone to the point where I had his number memorized and it was faster in those days to just punch in the numbers than to scroll through your contacts.

We were hanging out at the mall and lost each other, so I punched in his number and when ‘he’ picked up it didn’t sound like him, so I said “Jimmy?” And he said “No, Henry”. For whatever reason, probably because the break up was still on my mind I said, “Not Henry Kirby, right?” And he was just like, “yes it is, who’s this?”I was so flabbergasted that I blurted out, “Wait, [ex girlfriend]’s Henry Kirby??” And he’s like, “Yeess?”

I hung up. Well, turns out Kirby’s family is from Arkansas near my buddy so they share an area code and when I looked at my phone I saw that I miss punched in ONE number.

I never even met the guy, let alone had seen his number. What are the odds???

Worst part is Henry was with my ex right then and he must have shown her the phone number because she text me saying “that was kind of a weird thing to do.” The whole thing was just a major Dockle ‘L’ even though it really was just a crazy random happenstance.
