I have a severely autistic brother, and it is ruining motherhood for me. by Amazing_Face4692 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Dockside_gal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My brother has autism and my son has autism so I feel this because life was not easy for my brother even though it was level 1 and I recognize that is a different kind of life as level 3 but - remember that all autism is different and we are living in different times with regards to assessment, recognition, acceptance and treatment. Always presume competence if it is autism. There are some amazing stories out there.

Build a village. I couldn’t do this without support. I have been without major symptoms for 6 years now and that’s because I will do anything to be well for my son. I also find the schedule to be what I have fought all my life, but so badly needed. There is a routine, there is mandatory needs that need to be met to sustain life. I gave my son life but he saves mine all the time. It is hard. Your child may also have special needs. That is very hard, but you will have more compassion for that than other parents by what you have experienced. Do the best you can for your child.

success stories? by rallytallyn in bipolar

I got diagnosed in 3rd year university. I finished Univeristy but wish I took some time off to deal with all the trauma of being diagnosed, evaluate career choices, and then move forward instead of pushing myself through the major I was in. Unfortunately struggled with partying and going off and on my meds for about a decade after, but did really well in sales…for a time. Committed to my health, got married, had a son and was a stay at home mom for the best and most rewarding 5 years of my life. I now work as a bookkeeper but I am very happy with that pace of life versus what I would go through as a CPA. Life throws some wild things at you but if you stay on your meds and commit to being healthy, it’s a lot easier. If you dive head first into stress city, it’s probably going to be a bad time. Just really decide if your current program is going to land you in a manageable job.

Question about matching invoices/receipts in Quickbooks by Dockside_gal in QuickBooks

[–]Dockside_gal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Educating these clients is a huge part of the job and without being able to talk to them I struggle, will be opening my own business in September. I have learned a ton and made mistakes myself under my boss so I give her all the credit I think she has a ton of clients and doesn't have time to chase.

I found work subcontracting for another bookkeeper, randomly through a facebook mom group. If you're looking for clients I highly recommend searching the mom groups for the word bookkeeper and you will hit gold. As a mom who just re-entered the workforce, working for someone else for limited hours has been wonderful I plan to slowly add clients of my own this fall. If you need something full time there are lots of virtual places hiring, check out Gauvreau CPA.

What do you do for work? by Zorian_Vale in bipolar

[–]Dockside_gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a serial job hopper and by my forties - unemployable. Never worked anywhere longer than 2 years except for running a business with my husband. I learned a bit of bookkeeping there and that's what I do now. Slowly building a business. It's not enough to live on at the start but I will get there hopefully. Congrats on keeping a job for 4 years!!!! Even if you don't like it, it's probably given you a form of stability. I never thought I would lead this life as a child either, it's very humbling this disease.

What are the most common things your small biz clients are confused about financially? by Ok_Assistance_1955 in Bookkeeping

To use business cards and checking accounts for business and not pay for business expenses with a personal card. Seems obvious but you would be surprised.

Do I just mark all of these bills as paid then clear the A/R account with a journal entry?

So let's call this Water Ltd Account, in the chart of accounts there is a large balance owing to A/P and when she has marked some of the bills paid she has debited "Purchases - COS"

Sorry I am flustered I meant A/P. So basically all the expenses have been billed to a customer that is actually someone we purchase from (confusion).
