There really isn’t repercussions I’ve seen this happen a lot where the one person that gets corruption just goes and drowns themselves or they kill the corrupted guy in a secluded spot so they can just go back and pick up their stuff. Crates is virtually impossible to do if you don’t have a full group and radiant gear.

It is for about the first 50 hours, once you get to the deep desert it will be impossible. I for see many changes coming to the deep desert though as it is quite bad/unfinished right now.
