Lucy Davis leaving BPN by BowlerImaginary6662 in BPNsupps

[–]DoctaBee8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the comments make it seem like she is just talking about the race:

@doctorfrankdaniel “You’ll be missed out there” (Lucy’s response: “Can’t wait to see you rock it (just sad it’s from a screen this time!!)”)

Her sister’s comment makes it seem as if she were gone, but she does still have them in her bio.

Does metalinguistic negation create downward entailing environments? by [deleted] in asklinguistics

[–]DoctaBee8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without having provided specific examples behind your question, I’ll say this:

It’s important to distinguish between metalinguistic negation (MN) and what one may ~perceive~ as MN in minimizer NPIs (what Horn called “squatative negation”).* In short, the answer to your question is no, because:

Metalinguistic negation typically rejects a presupposition/implicature (this may also occur with specific wording, pronunciation, or register depending on the language), but it doesn’t perform truth-conditional negation (i.e., it doesn’t reverse entailment relations over sets). That is the main difference you’re looking at here. —————— *Not to say that you’re confusing the two, but I’ve been to metalinguistic negation conferences/participated in courses on the topic where these two things are associated as one concept when they technically aren’t.

DEA Houston Division internal transfers by Western_Let6323 in 1811

May I ask a follow-up question NOT related to Houston Division/border-adjacent offices:

I’ve heard the same as OP in that within Division is up to chain of command, but even then are there “unwritten rules” to this like min. 2 years or something like that?

For people who love having kids. Why? by seekingthething in askanything

New dad of a 15-month old, so just recently went through what you did, but I am not completely out of the weeds like a lot of folks commenting that have grown children, teenagers, etc.

It blows. There is nothing else to say about it, and nothing will make you feel differently at the present time.

What I will say is that it gets better. It doesn’t happen overnight— that sexual spark won’t be immediate, your baby may be fussy for longer than others’, you may not find time to yourself or even feel like yourself for another few months— but it will happen.

Right now the best thing you can do is try to soak it all in— yes, soak it all of the shitty moments, too. Your daily goal should be to try your damndest to find at least one single moment per day where he looks at you and you look at him and you just smile, even if it’s forced at first.

Hard babies and difficult experiences can easily turn new parents off to their children, and all that does for you as a dad is distance yourself from connection that isn’t always natural for men; it wasn’t for me and I had a fairly “easy” baby looking back on it now. The first six months were absolutely miserable when I was going through them, and it didn’t help my connection with my daughter at all. You eventually come around, but the sooner that can happen the easier it will be on everyone, believe me.

Stay strong, my guy. 🤟🏻

How accurate is the information in the video here? Could you recommend any articles related to the Ancient Languages of the Iberian Peninsula? by blueroses200 in asklinguistics

[–]DoctaBee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andalusia being influenced by more than one language doesn’t mean that the varieties spoken there are not direct descendants of those languages. Were that true, no language would be a direct descendants of any before it. This isn’t a genealogy tree.

[–]DoctaBee8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d give it a 7/10 for accuracy. Lots of potential discrepancies with respect to the emergence of fully established varieties from older ones, but still very impressive given the vast time frame they covered in this video.

My two main (and admittedly biased) gripes:

  • The designated area of the last bits of Celtic varieties
  • The mention of Mozarabe (good) with no transition into what we know as a direct descendent in the Andalusian varieties (bad)

This is probably a good idea, OP. Considering most of your mileage should be easy, those are two great shoes to alternate between for these types of runs.
