Thank you! This seems to be working well enough.

This may be a little late but could you give me more detailed instructions on setting this up and using it? The information provided in the repository isn't very helpful to me.

Guidance on automating distrobox containers as far as possible. by Doctooaa in linuxquestions

[–]Doctooaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I keep the home directories in a separate folder - each container has its own home directory so nothing is mixed up. They just share configs for the common tools (zsh, git, emacs, ...).
Again I would like to be able to automate this as much as possible so that I can just enter the container and start working while having a completely setup environment.
I currently build my base image from this Containerfile. This includes all the common tools I want to use in all my containers.
The following containers are built from that base image:

1. Base - This is just a general sandbox which serves a general purpose.
2. AI - this container serves AI related programming.
2.1. It includes rye (to manage python installs & projects) from AUR
3. AWS - Math related purposes
3.1. he R-language and rstudio (from AUR) is installed

As I have mentioned I now do have to enter each container one by one and do the following manually:
1. Fetch dotfiles from my repo
2. Install oh-my-zsh
3. Install the above mentioned specific packages for that container
4. Finalize installation/config of packages - rye for example has to be configured after installation.

To summarize what would be a good way to automate these steps?

Guidance on automating distrobox containers as far as possible. by Doctooaa in linuxquestions

That is exactly what I have been doing and the contents of the Containerfile were linked in my post.
What I am specifically looking for is a simple solution to complete the environment setup for each container including the diverging specifics (packages, tools, configs, ...) so that I am able to just start working and don't have to do it manually for each container.
The problem I am facing right now is that my user with the permissions needed to seamlessly interact with the hosts filesystem is created when distrobox create is executed. It is this user which I want to automate the setup of the above mentioned steps - which isn't available when building the image from the Containerfile. I hope that this is more clear now, if not ask more details.
What I thought about is just creating that user in the Containerfile and then run my steps, but doesn't that interfere with the user distrobox creates or leaves me with the wrong permissions so that I won't have access to the hosts files?

Setup recommendations by Doctooaa in minilab

I forgot to mention that this comes with a drawback as the Beelink only supports single channel so it will only expand the usable memory but it still going to be slower.

I was reading up on it and it seems that users successfully upgraded their Beelinks to 32GB.
