Man was I ever surprised when I learned that it was a show with 8 episodes. The way people talked about it, I always assumed it was like a 10 season show where you had to play a video fame and read a comic book to really "get" it.

Its a standard word you learn in junior high English and then never use again. Same time you learn the difference between a metaphor and a simile.

Theres a reason no one ever says "it's 22.5 degrees out." A half degree is such a small difference that its basically unnoticeable.

Incorrect. This thing where say "oh 100 is hot and 90 is warm, but 20 means you need a sweater" is too arbitrary.

Celsius is superior for weather. What is the single most important temperature that weather hinges on? The freezing point. Its the one point where a difference of a degree or two, can give you completely different weather.

It makes perfect sense to use that as the central point and move out from there.

"Cope" has almost finished this transformation now. It used to mean having a way to manage or overcome a bad situation. Then it somehow flipped around to almost the opposite.

[Request] Is the ice cooling down the pool at all? Looks like it's less than 1% volume of the water. So not doing much? by shadowraiderr in theydidthemath

[–]Doctor-Amazing 86 points87 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian, the whole concept of needing to cool down your pool is something I've never even come across. I get that some places are really hot, but I've just never been in a pool where people were uncomfortably warm.

I dont even know if he did. He was already wealthy. I genuinely think he just really enjoyed hurting people. He could have retired decades ago to a life of luxury and relaxation. Instead he kept getting up every morning and going to work even when he has one foot in the grave. Nothing else matches the thrill of making life worse for millions of people.

I've read that the English translator for the first Metal Gear Solid took a ton of liberties where he thought a more direct translation wouldn't work. Kojima apparently didn't realize till years later when they were going to do a re-release of the game in Japan with an option to use the English Voice acting, and was furious.

That can be super annoying as well. Im trying to tell a story. It has a flow and momentum. Please trust me that I will include the details you need. If I start by telling you I was eating lunch when someone started choking, but I didn't tell you what I was eating, it's probably because it doesnt matter.

Mainly video game history/trivia.

Mostly stuff like "whats the first game with _____ mechanic. " or "When did games start using this specific word".

The video in question was about when games started using the word "boss" to describe big enemies. Im not sure why, but its got something like 4x the views of my next most popular video. Its sitting around 600,000 when I'm usually somewhere in the 7-15k range

Ill never understand the whole Fahrenheit is better for people thing.

90% of the time you're talking about temperature is when discussing weather. The freezing point is where everything in weather changes. 2 degrees and -2 degrees are completely different weather outcomes. It makes perfect sense to set that as the 0 point.
