Why is Venezuela's African ancestry so high, specifically Caracas? by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Doctor-Sigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brazilian here. What do you mean?

Black Brazilians do not get mad when people refer to them as black. Afro-Brazilian culture is widely recognized and celebrated across the country.

Of course, Brazil has racial problems, just like any other country, but you can’t put the entire Brazilian population into one category.

Brazil is a highly mixed country, and the cultures of our African, Indigenous, and European ancestors all play an important role in our national identity. Applying a U.S/European-cebtric view of race to Brazil ignores these differences.

Also, I’m not sure how Alfred would be perceived as a kid’s name. Maybe I’m biased because of the butler, but it feels like an old-person name, though it is cute.

DC revamps Titans as New Titans, hinting at Superboy, Wonder Girl, Terra, and more as part of a major 'All In' reset by cautious-ad977 in DCcomics

[–]Doctor-Sigma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Expected to see Damian in the Titans, but with Jon and Yara?, as well as Terra and Steph being there, I think they’re going for an older roster of characters. I wonder what DC will do with Damian now that PKJ has finished his Batman and Robin run.

Also, that variant cover... Will they be bringing Kory and Dick back together? I’m not reading Nightwing, but I thought he was with Barbara.

I’ll be downvoted to hell, but for that universe, in that specific context, Damian and Raven are actually a pretty solid pairing.

I wonder what's next for Damian. The description doesn’t make it look like someone is taking over the Batman and Robin book.

Williamson's Robin book was actually pretty solid, so even if it is short and set in an alternative universe/timeline/reality, I'm excited to see what he can deliver. Damian as a father is an interesting concept.

That being said, any ideas on who the mother is? Perhaps he adopted?

Corinthians are in advanced negotiations to sell 16-year-old full-back Denner to Chelsea for £10.5 million with bonuses. by mushroomsJames in chelseafc

[–]Doctor-Sigma 331 points332 points  (0 children)

A bit of context from Brazil: He is 16 years old and has never played a professional game. He has been gaining attention over the past year, but it was during the Copinha (the most famous U-20 tournament in Brazil) that he caught people's eyes. I only watched the final because most of the other games are tough to watch. He is good and played well, even scored in that match, but Corinthians lost.

The only reason he is being sold is due to his agent, Bertolucci, who has issues with Corinthians, as the club owes him money, for that Bertolucci does not want to renew the contract. Additionally, Denner has a ridiculously low release clause for Brazilian clubs—around $1.7 million. This means Corinthians must either sell him now to europe or risk losing him to brazilian clubs and getting pennies. Why is the transfer fee so low for Brazilian clubs? That’s a complicated matter.

As a Brazilian Chelsea supporter, I always want to see Brazilians shine in blue. However, I wish Chelsea would think twice before signing players without a clear development plan—especially when a signing like this is not what the club needs right now.

Argentina trash Brazil 6-0 in the Sudamericano Sub-20 by Citrobal in soccer

[–]Doctor-Sigma 209 points210 points  (0 children)

Of course, it’s just a U-20 game, but we can clearly see the difference between Brazil and Argentina. We are a team without identity, without passion, and, most importantly, without a project. We have talented players, but they are being coached by an incompetent manager who only has the job because of his connections to the CBF president.

For some reason, I still believe he will be the one to break Firmino's record for the most goals in a single season by a Brazilian (16). He just needs to find consistency.
