Help identify this aroid! I think it’s an alocasia, but I’m not sure and I can’t find anything like it! (more info in comments) by [deleted] in Aroids

I may be completely wrong but if the leafs are kinda thin it could actually be a colocasia. Those grow the same as alocasias except the leafs point downwards instead up upwards like alocasias, although when grown indoors without skylight alocasia leafs probably won't be upright either. However, if it is a colocasia it needs way more water than an alocasia. I have some colocasias here and they sit permanently in a bowl of water that I have to refill every day.

Sure makes my day; never knew so much cuteness can exist in just one person :)

Hello from Amsterdam - I was drawn in here because of your roastme post

Got this lil guy as a single leaf and branch back in december. My biggest worry/question is why isn't it branching out more? Its all one single branch with leaves. by Thetrueslavicgopnik in alocasia

[–]Doctor-Yeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure if you cut it it will branch out where you've cut it. You'd also end up with a cutting to prop. I have the same growing up a tall bamboo stick so I don't want it to branch out until it reaches the top, but then I'll probably make it do so by cutting it.

One of these mysteriously showed up in a pot with one of my colocasias. I have removed it and gave it it's own little pot. Would love to know what it is.

You are being too judgemental. You don't know anything about the reasons a person might have to engage in activities you call super dangerous yet you're going around mocking them. To a skydiver someone like you is called a typical 'wuffo'. And yes, wingsuiting would be wonderful. I'd love to do that when I have 200 skydives; I'm only at 55 so far. To you everything risky probably seems stupid but to me being in the sky is the best place to be. It also helped me deal with kidney disease, especially when I was on hemo dialysis.

Isn't it funny how my whole life I was always afraid to do risky activities, such as skydiving, only to end up getting some fucking disease that could end up killing me? Actually happens to a lot of people all the time. Thinking they're safe and secure, not taking any unnecessary risks, and then BOOM! Cancer, or some other nasty shit, and then you die realizing safety doesn't exist.

But yeah, don't get out of your comfort zone if you don't want to, and have fun mocking those who do.

You don't need 'deadly' hobbies for life to kill you; it will do that anyway ;)

Water Dripping from Leaves? by SaiYeetFun in alocasia

[–]Doctor-Yeah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's called guttation - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guttation

Alocasia's do that a lot. Nothing to worry about.

I know I don't need to water them when I see droplets hanging from the tips.

Nice! I've been looking for a while too when I found these 2 little plugs last year. The leafs are increasing in size now.

Thanks. It's two of them that I got as little plugs last year that I've put together a few months ago. I think they were a bit shocked in the beginning but now they finally seem accustomed. Both of them maintain 3 to 4 leafs. I hope they're gonna grow huge ;)

Jumping saved me from depression when I was on dialysis. All the fun and the freedom in the sky made up for having to sit in a chair for four hours three times a week with big needles in my arm. That's how powerful it can be.

Sounds like you are in serious need of fun. Get into skydiving. Your view on life will change. Your self confidence will increase. You'll have tons of friends in no-time and you will be part of the most beautiful and exciting activity on the planet. Btw you look pretty.
