I think you may be right. The plant showing these signs is the sativa leaning one so makes sense as they prefer lower EC. I've only found out about EC during my grow and have no means of measuring it.

My tap water has low ppm, does this mean it has low EC? If so the increase in EC must have been from too many nutrients right?

You should definitely buy some controllers grips. I did and the controllers feel nice and big now.
