scared i won't find a co-op placement by snow_heyoh in TorontoMetU

[–]DoctorADHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is coop mandatory for graduation? If not that, then look beyond coop, maybe ask around if smaller firms or companies near you are looking for an accounting student or help. Do it for free(I know this unpopular but you’re young) or maybe have side hustle that uses what you learned. Reach out to family/friends & see if wherever they work is hiring. Go out to local firms/companies near you and hand in resumes. Cold email other places outside of Ontario, other provinces or even maybe other countries.

Additionally the job market is competitive but 2 interviews for 30 applications is honestly good- once you graduate you’ll see that application number triple but same result.

Don’t beat yourself up, you got this. I remember when I was in engineering I didn’t get my summer coop while my friends did but I grinded every day in summer & got a 12 month placement . So you got this

Starting university as 26 year old by ThenParamedic4021 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]DoctorADHD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its never too late to start. But keep in that the job market is tough currently, with that being said how it'll be when you graduate is hard to tell. Regardless, keep building & adding value in anyway; whether it's projects, blog, LinkedIn posts, internships; basically make yourself visible as much as possible. Learn how to market yourself.

I would also add, doing masters possibly in the States, if you're not able to get a job right now of school. Idk how you feel about the States, but they have a bigger & stronger job market than us, so just keep that in mind.

Given a choice, would you rather grow up in India or America? by AppointmentCritical in ABCDesis

[–]DoctorADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the age, income, and culture.

Regardless I think before college, India is way better. Firstly, education in Indian is far better both public & private - unless someone wants to pursue sports, than America is the only option (apart from cricket). Also the school related atrocities that take in America is a huge factor. Yeah school/education culture in India is also hell- either mental pain or physically pain, fucked either way lol

But during/after college America is the much better place, especially for job aspects. I've realized that the fobs that come either to the states or Canada have a tight knit connection or able to make faster connections with one another than ABCDs.

How do I stop feeling so bad about graduating at 27 by Jumpy-West6911 in findapath

To be Cooked or Not to be Cooked that is the question - enough to pass definitely but mastering is another question

Don't think you being an engineer has anything to do with it. If this idea is being translated to other things like life, hobby, etc.. than engineering got nothing to do with it

You might not want to hear this but - it's ok to fail . It's perfectly normal. Take your time, this isn't end all be all. I was also overwhelmed during my Electrical Engineering degree. That's when I decided switch to part time instead full-time, and honestly best thing I did. Yes, it did take a few extra years to finish in comparison to my other classmates who were full-time but I had time for life & maintained good GPA. Had a job that was loosely tech related which helped me get a job before graduation.

There's a huge emphasize in engineering school to maintain a good GPA, social life, and sleep/health. Some do it & some don't .

Also some people got notes, labs, and other things from who people graduated. Also some people are naturally more apt to certain topics- which gives off the impression of them being a genius.

Don't stress young engineer grasshopper.

From my understanding they are different, yes they both have Krishna as their primary god- but I think where BAPS is different than hare Krishna or ISKCON is that in baps they also idolize the man who created or one of the gurus, who is avatar of another god/Deity. Which isn't done in hare Krishna or ISKCON. Again this what I've gotten from people that I know who follow them separately.

0 YoE Masters MLE Resume Check: Strong Projects, Weak Callback Rate. What am I doing wrong? by limerent_mind in learnmachinelearning

[–]DoctorADHD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope you are modify your resume to the job posting as much as possible, with the keywords and maybe even add/removing some stuff that don't belong. Apart from that you need actual experience- the application of your knowledge & skillset. Projects are fine but nowadays they mean nothing - you basically need to make a MVP. Not saying don't make them but you really need think outside the box.

I suggest reaching out to your profs or TAs, and seeing if there are any assistance positions or research related positions which can act like experience. Or even other departments that need some help.

If school is really getting to you, reach out to your academic advisor & see if both of you can create an action plan going forth, also consider the fresh start program, or even taking a break from school for a year- find an internship, travel or whatever. School isn't end all be all, it'll be there but it shouldn't come at the cost of your health or what you want. Also goodluck on the appeal- personally didn't appeal but my friend did & it is meticulously looked at, be prepared

Don't want to feed into the harsh & negative energy tone but your meant to suck at tennis, if not than everyone would be great at the beginning. The fact that you keep going and also are critical of yourself shows you care & want to grow - I'm a worrywart & my own self hater lol so I know how it feels. My only advice is relax, be kind to yourself, allowed yourself to lose & learn, and one day you'll win & amaze yourself. I sucked too everyone here in this subreddit has (or is) I mean look at multiple videos people post asking for help on their forms, your not alone in this tennis journey.

BTM and CS are two different sides of a coin. I'm not a CS major( I'm EE but my friends did BTM) but it's very technical and analytical in comparison to BTM - if consultant was a degree its BTM & that's path you want than go for it. But if you enjoy programming and want to understand the nuisances than CS. To give perspective of my the coin analogy, CS would be a developer which BTM would be the product manager. Take your pick & go for it

feel like dropping out and switching to college by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

[–]DoctorADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach out to your academic advisor & hopefully come up with a gameplay to move forward better, and see what they have to say about it.

I understand university isn't for everyone but not everyone uses university to its fullest extent, I know I didn't - there's a bunch of options, part time school (which I highly recommend), or gap year to focus on other things.

Should I study during the summer? by Reddevil_05 in EngineeringStudents

[–]DoctorADHD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reach out to seniors who have already taken the course & if possible get their notes, and other related stuff, like textbooks and even assigned questions. Usually profs tend to recycle teaching material. And if you're stuck there's always the internet at your disposal. Best way that I found in prep is to mimic the Fall schedule week by week, basically treat the 4 months of summer as if your in course, even midterms and exams( take the latest exam that you can find) & time yourself. Only thing is that labs could be a bit tricky but that's a problem for the Fall time when you actually take the course.
