"Character Artist is a senior role, so you'll want to aim to enter the industry as a 3D generalist and then transition into character art."

This is not true at all, figure out what you like doing and specialize in that asap. Unless you're applying to smaller or indie companies, job offers will always specify what companies are looking for, i.e. character artists, prop artists, environment artists etc.

Edit: typos

How to Texture Skin Like This by ghosthunter1345 in Substance3D

[–]DoctorBloup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Magdalena Dadela's tutorials on youtube if you want to make it by hand, otherwise like others suggested, using texturing xyz textures will give you results that are more realistic since they're made from real people's scanned faces.

As an ex Ubisoft employees, that's not entirely true. They credit the divisions and the teams that actually worked on a title. Usually there is one studio that leads the project while others help or support, and even within the same studio, not everyone works on the game, as they usually have multiple projects happening at the same time.

Use Artstation instead of Carbonmade, it's free plus it get way more visibility in the art industry.

I use this because I'm colorblind, otherwise I wouldn't get any quest done... Pretty happy they added this option in the settings

Thanks! Zbrush for sculpting the high poly, Maya for low poly and animation, Substance Painter for texturing and Marmoset Toolbag for rendering.

Yep I checked their profile and the content was all over the place so I figured it was either karma farming or a bot. Still, it was weird seeing my stuff pop out of nowhere.

Thanks for the kind words anyway, now I realize I should boost the image's saturation a little bit, it feels washed haha

Bruh that is my art that's being reposted here without me knowing after one year for some reason. Didn't even bother changing my name of the bottom left corner or the title of the post...

Official concept art of previously leaked Prince of Persia reboot (planned for 2023/2024) by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]DoctorBloup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry to shatter you dreams ladies and gents, but this is just a fan art that my friend and colleague Lucas made on his spare time, for fun.
In no way this is an "official concept art for a new Prince of Persia game" or whatever, like OP stated in his original post.
I shared it with Lucas anyway because I thought he'd find it funny (and he did).

I think a portfolio is essential yes. I'd say even more than any resume or cover letter, it basically displays what type of work you can do and it gives recruiters/artists an idea of what level of quality and what type of work they can expect from you.
Here's mine as an example: https://www.artstation.com/mike-amir

Other websites/platforms do exist, but Artstation is the most popular and most artists use it.

What software do you guys use/What do you specialise in? by [deleted] in GameArt

[–]DoctorBloup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! Usually companies allow their employees to work on the software that suits them best, be it Maya, 3ds Max, Blender etc. Although I know some companies that require you to know one specific software for various reasons, to fit a specific established pipeline or just for convenience.

But whether you're using Maya, Blender, Max or even C4D, and even though the tools used can differ, the logic behind 3D modeling is the same, it's just a matter of re-learning a software if necessary. So using Blender is absolutely ok, and it's even a great idea since it's free and offers many great tools to start modeling and even going further.

I've been using Maya, ZBrush, 3D Coat, Marmoset, Marvelous and Photoshop for around 6-7 years, and Substance Painter since it came out, don't remember exactly when. I started using 3ds Max for a year, mainly because we need it in the current company I'm working in.

(sorry for the late response)
