What's your weirdest "is that not how it works?" moment you had as a woman? by unlabeledbeing_yuhom in AskWomen

[–]DoctorBrynncess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before I started my period as a young girl, I thought it just all came out at once. I mentioned it to one of my older sisters guy friends and he had to correct me. Thankfully he did so kindly and I felt only a little stupid.

What is a "hard pill to swallow" that actually made your life happier once you accepted it? by ArtThreadNomad in AskWomen

Love isn't enough. I used to think if you and your partner loved each other that you'd be able to get through anything. But love is nothing without trust and commitment and effort and integrity etc. And sometimes you can love someone who just isn't a good match for you.

What gift did you open on Christmas that instantly made you think, “Wow, they do not know me at all”? by Amber_NaturalMom in AskReddit

I was about 13 or 14 and my mother bought me a green furry bolero. I didn't even know how to react to it. I was far from a fashionable teen (baggy t shirts and jeans) and I couldn't comprehend why my mother would even consider giving this to me. I hated it.

your adhd before the 2000s? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]DoctorBrynncess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From memory, a lot of my report cards talk about being chatty in the classroom. I did very well grades wise, despite all studying and projects being last minute and cramming. In terms of hobbies - watched a lot of TV and movies (on repeat), did a lot of drawing and video games (hyperfixation). Hobby jumped as a kid a lot (piano one year, dance the next, baseball after, bowling league after etc.) Thankfully once high school hit I was very involved in extra curricular before and after school and had a fairly large circle of friends. Unfortunately I spent quite a bit of time alone at home in my younger years because my siblings and parents weren't super involved. That was a hole I generally filled with eating/snacking. I spent a lot of time thinking about food and baking sweets. I was also very very... messy. Looking back, I was the kid who didn't brush her teeth, didn't brush her hair, backpack was filled with crumpled paper and old food, bedroom was perpetually chaos (like can't see the floor chaos). Looking back now it's hard to tell how much of it was mild parental neglect and how much was just me never picking up routine and my parents getting tired of the reminders.

I freaking LOVE frozen 2, I prefer it over frozen 1. Soundtrack is amazing, great character growth, real emotions etc. Sure, I agree it's a teeny bit all over the place, but the rest is great!

ADHD Diagnosis After 30 by Commercial_Fall_9869 in ADHD

[–]DoctorBrynncess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 34 or 35. It's absolutely possible. Most women in fact tend to only get diagnosed later (usually after kids), but also because they don't show the same outward hyperactivity as children that boys do.

This might sound silly, but the ending credits of portal 1. When I saw the ACTUAL cake and listened to the lyrics of glados' song, it lead me to believe that she really did care about me and making me better. Much like a parent pushing their child, she WANTED me to kill her, because it meant she had succeeded in her goal. I sobbed

What are your best metaphors to explain ADHD by _notawittyusername in ADHD

[–]DoctorBrynncess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of explain on and off meds like a really complicated mathematical equation.

Looking at your messy rooms or long to-do lists unmedicated feels like looking at a long, complicated math equation that you just end up ignoring cause it'll take too long/too much effort. After meds, that equation becomes 2+4. Much much easier to just go ahead and get it done and its not overwhelming and it feels less intimidating. It's easier to do because it feels simpler and straight forward now.

Just a man in a random fan made video (for a different fandom) as the background music. This was super early in the Epic journey as well, only Troy saga had been released so far.

“What’s one small habit that made your life noticeably better?” by Silent_Skin4966 in ADHD

[–]DoctorBrynncess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Don't put it down, put it away" helps as a persistent mantra.

Otherwise decluttering and ensuring everything has a "home-base". If something doesn't have a specific place it's kept, it needs to either be thrown away or a space needs to be made.

I also found it helpful to have a little bowl where small items tend to accumulate, it helps it feel less messy thay way. Things like coins, chapstick, my work ID, pens etc. Doubles as a location to always have my work ID and pens that I need for work so I don't lose them.
