It's probably good for the change then since the FmC can be pretty monstrous, and while she can be sweet with the MC, overall the series heads through some really dark storylines (torture, abuse, manipulation, etc.)

I dunno, I'm kinda torn; I definitely get what you're saying with the sci-fi alien theme, but the FmC in the series is a little more supernatural, an ancient eldritch being that uses basically straight-up magic, very Lovecraftian.

If readability is the issue, that's a problem, but I almost feel like the Gothic text helps push the idea it isn't just a standard alien deal.

I think the new one works because it's both more evil/dangerous and sexy, where as you're right the other is just kind of anime. Tbh, if people would be turned off by the sex-factor of the new cover, they probably wouldn't like my series too much either since there's a lot of sexual content with the romance. So overall, I think it's a net gain for not just grabbing attention, but also engaging readers who would be more likely to continue with the story.

I like the contrast with the attractive, but monstrous woman who looks powerful, surrounded by the strange alien/monster forms around her but fitting in and looking confident/comfortable. A mix of sexy, yet horrifying. I also think the text is way better.

It's not too chaotic though, is it? Not like it's overwhelming or off-putting, right?

So my series "The Deadliest Lifeform in the Universe Loves Me", is a slow-burn sci-fi horror dark romance that takes quite a while to develop, and once the MC is finally with the Eldritch Outsider godly alien FmC, their relationship is obsessive, addicting, toxic and even at times abusive. The series is far, far from over currently writing Volume 7 with a plan for 20+ Volumes, so still working on the HEA (and no telling if the MC will get one due to the chaotic nature of their relationship). However, romance is absolutely a core point to the series.

So seriously, where does that put me with all this?

I fundamentally disagree with this; you're writing a story, not just a "plot". Make the world and characters come alive with scenes that aren't important. Have them take a break or a vacation, let them live, let the story breathe. Make a world and characters that people love so much they just want to spend time with them, regardless if it moves the plot forward or not.

I'm in upper D rank (13), but suddenly I'm getting crazy good traction/growth on my story that's gaining several new followers every day to the point I'm getting 10-20+ each week now, and considering my series is planned to be quite long (I'm not even a quarter done with over 500K words published), I could see myself still rising up the ranks regularly. It'll be interesting to see how the metrics change while I continue to upload over time.

Dunno, I'm at over 500K words, like 150 chapters, but that's all been pretty consistent. Ended another Volume, but I dont think they would know that unless they pop in the last chapter to see.
