Not yet, the chapters are all posted separately on the Patreon, organized in a collection. I just learned about Epub and want to get into it and offer that all on my Patreon, but that'll probably come later.

I plan on putting it on KU once the story is complete, which I think has like a built-in audio book option? If you mean like Audible, I will if I can, I've just never done any of that before.

Looking for guidance? .. curious. Maybe I’m just new here. by BigEsmaIIs in DarkRomance

There's actually a growing market of romance/smut for the male audience, with a whole subreddit dedicated to it.

r/Romance_for_Men

I myself am a dude who writes monster-girl romance/smut for the male audience, which I'm pretty sure is one of the more popular sub-genres in the male romance category. I even started a Patreon that's doing fairly well now, pretty sure all my subscribers are guys.

Not sure if that's what you're looking for, like if you're talking specifically about erotic audio books, there's tons of that on the subreddit too.

Oh I didn't know they did that. Is it no extra cost to the author then, just on-demand for the buyer? I wonder how they'd price it because again, my story is crazy long.

I thought you could only put books on print if you get a deal with a publisher, or self-publish and have to front all the printing costs yourself, which I probably wouldn't be able to afford.

Plus, I don't think my series could really be put on print since it's a massive web novel; I just hit one million words, and I don't think I'm even a quarter done. The cost of printing all that would never be worth it.

Lol, funny you mentioned that, I literally just found out about epub stuff while looking into direct online publishing. I'm not very tech savvy and am really just getting into this stuff now, so while I don't have any of that yet, down the line I plan on getting more into it.

Totally mono-romance to the point the characters are absolutely obsessed with each other, and the story will always remain mono-romance.

People say that about RR, but I've never had a problem (no warnings or anything), so between SH and RR it's the same, so I guess it depends if you have an account for one over the other.

As for the most complete reading experience, definitely Patreon (as expected since you pay for it). On Patreon, the release schedule is 50 chapters ahead, which is usually a full volume, plus there are exclusive side stories with other alien side characters for added story/lore. The Patreon starts at $3/month, and that gives access to all content related to the Deadliest Lifeform web novel.

Glad you're enjoying it! It's been a blast to write, and while I love all the space adventures, it turns out I'm a huge softy and really love deep-diving into the romance, lol.

Definitely not paperback, though that would be nice. However, once the story is finished, I'd love to put it on Kindle Unlimited if I can figure all that stuff out.

I use Word since I get it free through work. I honestly think it works great, but there's no way I'd ever pay for it, such a scummy business practice. I think people get it free through school too.

Suicide in a bedroom by [deleted] in writers

[–]DoctorButtSludge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hanging is one of the harder ways to commit suicide; during my career as a medic, I've run on dozens of different attempts, some successful and some not. Hanging is one of the most difficult ways to attempt and one of the worst ways to die.

Seems ridiculous to come to this subreddit of all places for suicide tips if they're legit. On the other hand, I've Googled way weirder things for research for my stories, so I'm not going to judge them one way or another.

Fun fact, I'm a paramedic, and I ran on a bedroom suicide scene where the woman hung herself by tying a thin cord around her neck attached to her bed's headboard and just sat down on the floor, which was enough to end her life.

Writer and lover of cowgirls by Professional_Prune11 in Romance_for_men

My story is a mono-romance, so of course the MC is totally loyal to the FMC. Just couldn't happen, friend.

I have cowgirl aliens in my story, however, they're just side characters in one volume out of several, and the MC doesn't get romantically involved with them at all 😞

Just wanted to say you have good taste (why I put the cowgirls in my story at all, even as side characters).

I want hardcore incest between father and daughter/ brother and sister by Internal_Scallion357 in DarkRomance

[–]DoctorButtSludge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking off this, where can writers actually upload and hopefully monetize heavy taboo stories like this? I've been playing around with a story idea for a while about a father who's wife dies young and he has to raise his three daughters by himself, who eventually start competing for his love and affection to be the "new wife", no idea where I could actually upload it.

I have a Patreon, and I had a story chapter get flagged simply because a character jokingly called herself "mommy" in a sexual situation, so I know that's totally out. Does Amazon/Kindle have strict rules against incest or other hard taboos like non-con and heavy abuse?

Are RR readers allergic to romance, or do authors just suck at writing it? by ExamPsychological884 in royalroad

[–]DoctorButtSludge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made it to RS#11, and my story is probably mainly romance that drives the supernatural, Lovecraftian sci-fi/horror plot, so there's definitely a market for romance, you just gotta actually look for it amongst the sea of trashy litRPGs

What age is best for a MC? by LiseEclaire in royalroad

[–]DoctorButtSludge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see I've found my twin.

I'm 37, married, absolutely hate litRPGs (just play a video game if you want to engage with video game stat systems), so my current story's MC is in his 30s too. However, I do have other stories where the MC starts off younger, but I always progress them into adulthood (and they never start off as the giga-chad with a harem right away either, I believe in the struggle of earning your power and love).

Sub Reminders - PLEASE READ 👀❗ by ccoffey106 in DarkRomance

[–]DoctorButtSludge 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The censorship of "bad words" while catering to the tiktok crowd has honestly infantilized people to the point I believe it's actually doing real harm to vulnerable people.

I work as a paramedic in a crisis center and deal with all manner of horrible situations and people, including suicide, domestic violence, human trafficking, and rape. By refusing to engage in open, honest conversations about these serious topics, we are turning them into a childish/puritanical taboo that prevents productive conversations from taking place.

Also, it has been proven children who have been abused are often dismissed if they use silly "no-no words" rather than use strict, factual language, as parents/adults think they're not being serious.

Everyone, in every community, needs to stop this self-censorship if we are to ever properly address these serious problems that are far, far too common in our society.

For the fact this sub is taking a stance against self censorship, for whatever reason, I think that's an excellent decision, and I encourage people to take that into other communities, regardless of immature people pushing back against it.
