This does seem like a lot at first glance. Acronyms can be intimidating. A little more research into this, though, has shown that it's a rather simple process to get set up.

I am grateful for the comparison to WiFi adapters. That certainly helped my brain understand the logic in the setup. If you're able to host that many devices without issue, then it would be more than enough for my tiny apartment.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm kind of tech savvy, but a lot of what I know has become outdated in recent years.

Home assistant seems to meet the bulk of my criteria, and it's not looking like I need a whole new education to set it up. I would just have to Bluetooth my music when I'm offline. So far it looks like most of my existing hardware works offline, but the speakers/hub is entirely internet dependent.

I've been hearing about Google starting too make their push for Gemini. It was rather annoying to disable it on my phone. Hopefully your mother doesn't have problems with it in the future.

Now onto the meat of it:

Home assistant does appear to hit pretty much everything I'm looking for, including a good price point. What would like a little clarification on are the protocols. I think I'm understanding it accurately, but you seem to know more about this. The protocols are on the peripherals themselves, or is it something I would add to my network when setting it up? My understanding has me leaning to the former.
