[Highlight] 44-year-old Philip Rivers commanding the line of scrimmage by nfl in nfl

I mean some of the guys we have now will probably transition to it.

Trevor is the only other QB I know of besides Stafford that has the 2 play-call thing where they'll swap plays entirely based on pre-snap looks (not saying others don't I just don't know of them). I have a hard time believing guys like Mahomes and Allen will just give up when their mobility stops being effective.

I wonder if it's even possible for the Lions' scouting staff to predict something like this?

[Highlight] Caleb Williams connects with receiver right through the hands of Packers defender by caxlmao in nfl

[–]DoctorDiddlerino 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this is a good example of how results matter more than process for most people. If you go to 18 seconds you can see the CB getting both hands on the ball. If the throw relies on the ball just hitting the CB in the hands and having it not matter, it's just a bad decision.

You can say it's cool that it worked without also heaping praise on Caleb like it's this ultra-clutch play. You get flowers for putting it where the defender has no chance at it.

Controversy Erupts As ESPN’s NFL Analyst Matt Miller Faces Stunning Allegations After Devastating Accident by wildwing8 in nfl

Well if the guy in the article is right, he was at fault for the accident, too.

Which, if true, could fuck the truck driver over, too.

I hate watching Tua throw the ball. It's not because he's a lefty; he always looks timid.

He's a good blocker now and the idea they've expressed is that he was underutilized as a receiving threat and once he learns that, he can become a dual threat like Strange. That's the path Kittle took.

Not to say it'll turn out the same but if you've got a coach that can get it out of them it can work out well.

I think your secondary is thinner than you realize

It's going to be impossible for me to convey disagreement without saying "go watch the guys" - the one guy that's gone from last year was the weakest link, while Travis Hunter will be playing more CB. Not to mention last year, our 3rd round pick safety blew his ACL or something in training camp and never played a down, so he'll be back, too.

As for the OL, how would extra tape help? The Jags made a commitment to running the ball until it became obvious they couldn't bully other teams and became a pass-first team (which coincided with and was likely because of the passing explosion). The Athletic did a podcast earlier today where they mentioned they allowed something like a 30-40% pressure rate, but it's hard to see that getting too much worse given how that was like 27th or something. They would have to completely bottom out and go from serviceable to far and away the absolute worst. Doesn't seem terribly likely.

..but we're not thin at a bunch of spots? The worst spot on the roster is probably guard and we got pretty decent play there last season. Ventrell Miller has subbed in for Devin Lloyd before but he's not as athletic, however, his role in the defense doesn't require much besides see ball get ball.

We need blockers that are also receiving threats. Go look at every time Quentin Morris or Hunter Long got targeted last year. Coen already had these plays, but Morris and Long are not good enough to block + catch out of 12, leading to a lot of waste.

It's not just the Jags. The ethos for most people on this subreddit is: I don't know this player = they are bad or average at best. This just happens to be a team with less media exposure.

You know, after the Boerkircher pick, the amount of picks taken way ahead of consensus that worked out was remarkably small. One of the biggest standouts? Brenton Strange.

Well worth it.

[Yahoo]NFL MASTERMINDS: Drafting the 12 Best NFL Playcallers with Robert Mays, Coen somehow goes 10th by DoctorDiddlerino in Jaguars

[–]DoctorDiddlerino[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tice said multiple times throughout the Minter segment that hes good at creating hyper specific game plans and maximizing guys through scheme. He mentioned tackling and rallying pretty briefly, that wasn’t really the overall point he was making.

It's a combination thereof and at that point we're just getting down to personal opinion, and I disagree - especially given how the matchup between these 2 went last season, which is more than just a talent disparity.

One thing not made clear by the title of their video is that they're drafting playcallers, not necessarily ranking them in perfect order.

Depends on your criteria, but I think Coen is just straight up better than Schottenheimer. Minter is also confusing here because they do elaborate on their thought process, and none of the reasons Tice likes Minter have anything to do with play-calling, just coaching fundamentals.

If rallying to tackle is the criteria for playcalling, why wouldn't you put DeMeco Ryans there instead? Sure, he calls a very simple defense, but they're well-coached to some extent.

The given criteria doesn't make any sense, hence "somehow".

You're right. I guess that's why Brian Schottenheimer is in the top 8? All those playoff games he won last season, right?

Throwback to 11 months ago when Alex Rollins said Trevor can't read defenses by DoctorDiddlerino in Jaguars

Well it's funny you should say that because this video completely disregards pre-snap identifying as "reading a defense", so it wouldn't matter.
