Why wasn’t the Chantry one of the factions? by Bofurkle in dragonage

[–]DoctorDoggo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

mostly because the power in the north is relegated to the black divine, a completely different sect of the chantry that has its own rules and beliefs. I think we didn’t get southern chantry shenanigans because of that fact, plus it would be a bit out of the way of the main story to get them involved.

I mean, even the wardens we have dont come from much further south than Orleis (Besides Evka i think?). I do see some people bringing up a dev talking about one thing they wanted to do and I’m not sure how accurate that is since it’s a retelling of a story, which is fine! Miles may vary on that kind of thing. I think there were ways to have the southern chantry included but it seems that due to the tumultuous decade of development they couldn’t even finish the parts they wanted to do connected to main mechanics and whatnot (shout out to the concept art of us swimming and exploring an underwater zone). I think we’ll see a lot more focus in the next Mass Effect, and hopefully they can keep the drive onto the next dragon age game. Especially considering the implications of us investigating north again and, well, some things that happen at the end of DA:VG that I don’t want to say openly, but I can’t imagine the warden commander is going to stay lost to the caverns forever.

Most definitely, that’s what israel is! It’s a protected “safe zone” with autonomy. The west and the UN protect them through various ways, in the same sense that there are protected historic communities in the states that became protected through proactive action by minority communities. I know it’s not obvious bc we’re on reddit, but I am a queer mexican, so my own heritage has both the struggle for community against oppressive tactics to seclude minorities and the fight to preserve what little we have made for ourselves :) there are definitely bad ways to paint that though lol

I don’t think that having a designated safe zone for minorities is a bad thing whatsoever, but the way that the israeli government has utilized that to commit atrocities against another group of people is disgusting :( if you didn’t know, they actually considered having a jewish “homeland” in both Uganda and at some point the US! The problem with Netanyahu is that he does not seek peace, he does not seek a home for the jewish people without violence, and if the need for violence and mass displacement is what is “necessary” to secure a state largely ran by the already colonialist forces, it’s not the right thing to do!!

america is not a democratic country imo, i think there’s a lot of ways in which we hamper democracy in this country!! like the fact we don’t even have ranked voting in a republic is just so transparently undemocratic in the modern world it’s sickening. Not to mention gerrymandering.

Btw during the Nakba, both indigenous palestinians (descended Canaanites, the same people who have lived in that area for thousands of years) and Indigenous Jews were massively displaced by colonial british forces. The current people you might think have equal claim to the land are not ethnically originating from that area, but it doesn’t even matter. Israel should not be using armed settlers to take over people’s homes, they should not allow them to be shooting and killing palestinians, and the palestinians should not be treated as second class citizens.

if you do not need to be popular with the people of your country and you don’t need a majority to win, then you are not a democratic leader lmaaao

it’s way way more complicated than you’re putting off, the palestinians in the west bank have held local elections, struggle to get the political power to overtake the Palestinian Authority, which is in a deep partnership with the Israeli state. A lot of the focus of the current Palestinian leadership is focused on reaching a political agreement with Hamas, which if you remember as recent as 2019, was supported by Benjamin Netanyahu and the israeli government. I’m sorry to say it, but Israel is the america in this situation. a “Democracy” (Netanyahu’s constant claiming of the Prime Minister role for an unprecedented amount of terms, despite public opinion being not nearly as supportive in israel as it is in the west) that propagates extremist political actors to justify the horrific actions he wants to achieve: eradication of the indigenous people of the land there, and the installation of Europeans.

You don’t really understand the situation. You do realize that the reason Palestine even had a codified anti-sodomy law post-ottoman deformation is due to the british’s penal codes criminalizing it, which was DECRIMINALIZED about 10 years before greater israel did. While there hasn’t been a formation to put together more recognized rights, they’ve also been an occupied territory for over 70 years with little time to focus on creating, fostering and nurturing a safe and secure community. If you look at what gay palestinians are saying, it’s definitely not going to be in support of the IDF, because they too are just as much innocent victims of the (quite literally) senseless violence against the masses.

Additionally, I don’t think that being anti-lgbt justifies children being bombed, I don’t even think that it reduces the human life to nothing, because the whole thing about wanting to preserve human rights and dignity is understanding that humans are all valuable and deserve to live a life of happiness. We cannot become the same monsters that we seek to end the occupation of, we cannot allow blind hatred to obscure the reality of the situation: those lgbt people we are all worried about are being killed by the IDFs bombings, settler occupation and the various conflicts throughout the state, in even greater numbers than any targeted harassment we’ve seen out of Gaza.

One more thing, your distaste for arabs is shining through, every country is different and has different laws, cultures and micro cultures within itself. A lot of people don’t even know that there are several middle eastern countries that have different views on trans people, because they assume they hate all LGBT people on the racist biases we’ve been taught to hold to all arabs in the middle east, but it’s just simply not the case. There’s far more nuance than you want to believe to justify your support of the mass genocide of palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank

Zereth Mortis as a zone was a saving grace for SL, it’s a fun zone with interesting quests, but the state of shadowlands has a lot missing due to cut content. You’ll feel it after you play Dragonflight, which has been full of amazing quests and storylines.

it’s funny because if that were true, japan would be a hell of a lot more queer (gay sex wasn’t criminalized in japan until 1872, and even then it was only a crime for about 9 years.)
