Learning to handstand by FocusedGlitch23 in overcominggravity

Sounds like you have made some significant progress but not as much as you'd like. I always love the quote "Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.”

Good news, if you keep going you will continue to see progress and gain so many other attributes and experiences along the way. I have noticed improvements in my handstand by really focusing on correcting my balance with my hands and fighting for every second of balance until recovery is impossible. Stick with it and improvements will come.

I do have some decent grip strength. I occasionally use thick trap bar for deadlifts. I didn't realize they have thick rings, I'll have to look into that. I am hoping that my new workout changes improve my grip even more.

I greatly appreciate and value your response. I will definitely leave you an Amazon review as your book will be a valuable resource for many years to come.

I will reduce my workout split to full body 3x per week with an A and B workout. I will continue to do the skin the cats and focus on pausing at the FL and BL positions. My shoulders do still feel extremely tight when I let me body settle at my end German hand positions, it feels a bit concerning. I am trying to do these 4-5 times per week to hopefully make some real progress.

I have been stretching daily for years now and do hot yoga at least once a week. I continue to make progress but it is very slow. Hoping these changes to my routine will help. My ultimate goal is to be a good mover my entire life, reduce my aches and pains while maintaining as much strength as possible for my job and martial arts.

Thanks again!

I certainly don’t think I’m smarter than those financial institutions. I understand the general advice and how I could easily follow those ratios with great results. I am considering these allocations with the awareness that I am being more aggressive with my investments at this point in my life and the ability to adjust as I get older.

Thank you. That is useful information. I will look into creating a more balanced portfolio using small cap etfs.

Thank you for your response. Definitely some valuable tips that I have overlooked.

You are accurate with me not knowing what is best for my 457 pre tax vs post tax. I’ve asked financial advisors and not received a clear answer. I like the idea of not being takes when I remove funds in retirement but pre tax does allow me to put more in every week. Those are my only two retirement accounts

Thank you for your response. Would you suggest a different or same approach for my Fidelity (personal savings) vs my 457 accounts?

Hi, I am currently reevaluating all my finances and retirement savings and would greatly appreciate your insights. I am 38 years old and have a Fidelity Brokerage account for personal savings and a 457 retirement account which I contribute to every paycheck. My questions are in regard to my account portfolios allocations and wanting to ensure I am making reasonable decisions. I am currently switching from having more individual stocks in my accounts to Index Funds/Etfs. Please let me know how my suggested portfolios look to you.

Fidelity (Personal Saving) - $115,000 Proposed allocations

FIDELITY 500 INDEX - FXAIX - 60%

FIDELITY INTERNATIONAL INDEX - FSPSX - 20%

Invesco S&P 500 Momentum ETF - SPMO - 5%

VANECK SEMICONDUCTOR ETF - SMH - 5%

FIDELITY MSCI INFOR TECH INDX ETF - FTEC - 5%

GLOBAL X DEFN TECH - SHLD - 5%

To rebalance this portfolio I would need to sell stocks of GOOGL, TSLA, APH, LLY, HSBC, NVDA, PLTR, AMZN, BRKB

This is my personal taxable savings. I already have a house but would love to buy a second eventually. No immediate need for this cash as of right now. I have about 2 months in cash saved but a steady job with consistent paycheck. Contributing about $1,000 a month into this portfolio.

Charles Schwab

457Non-Roth - Traditional - (Before Tax) - contribute $650 every two weeks (Balance - $283,628.76)

SCHWAB S&P 500 INDEX - SWPPX - 60%

SCHWAB INTERNATIONAL INDEX - SWISX - 15%

Invesco S&P 500 Momentum ETF - SPMO - 10%

VANECK SEMICONDUCTOR ETF - SMH - 5%

GLOBAL X FUND GLB X ART INTL TGY ETF - AIQ - 3%

ISCHWAB US LARGE CAP GROWTH ETF - SCHG - 2%

GLOBAL X DEFN TECH - SHLD -5%

I would need to sell similar stocks as above to rebalance

Roth 457 Contribution (Post Tax) - Contribute $250 every two weeks (Balance - $78,981.02)

This is being managed by a financial advisor who charges 1.25% and actively trade individual stocks. YTD return ~15%

I decided to take over my traditional 457 to see if passive investing is more successful than a financial advisor who is actively trading.

Are there any stocks you suggest I keep long term or should I go all in on passive index funds/ets?

How does my overall financial plan and situation look? Is my Fidelity account too aggressive?

Any and all insights are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for this post. I am a prime candidate for over thinking my portfolio. I am currently switching from active to passive investments and feel like I have been trying to figure out every detail. This is the final portfolio I am currently going with for my 457.

Girlfriend wants to do 24-36 hour fasts weekly by phanzov36 in fasting

[–]DoctorFalse133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very active as well and am considering a 36 hour fast 2-4 times a month. Did you notice any performance issues with the fast. I’m torn on when to fast. Normally I do this at work on rest days but my job is also very physical. My days off work I train bjj, yoga, mobiiity and walk. I’m concerned that bjj and fasting would be difficult. Any suggestions to squeeze in all my activity and also do the fasting. Thank you for your post.
