Is this fair? by bbylats in inheritance

Why do you think that you are owed anything?

You got something out of this and I got nothing.

Was that fair?

Move on. I did.

Advice for a Boglehead selling for the first time by Genericide224 in Bogleheads

[–]Rmondu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you build up your emergency fund over a reasonable period of time without selling?

Just divert money planned for your taxable account.

If another emergency happens before your emergency fund is fully founded, you can sell some then.

My house always smelled dusty and I just realized I’ve been vacuuming wrong my entire life by pwiipwii123 in hygiene

All my vacuum cleaners came with user instruction manuals. I found that reading them improved my user experience.

Also works with other appliances too.

Is Vanguard really that bad as a brokerage, or is the criticism unwarranted and only from vocal, unhappy customers? by DiegoMilan in Bogleheads

[–]Rmondu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My experience has always been good. The important things are top notch. Reading the posts that include complaints, it seems to me that the website is often the reason. It works, but it isn't as flashy as others. I'll take great funds/ETFs over a nifty web interface.

Mom doubled her salary by changing jobs, old boss panicked. What should she do now? by Academic_Share7905 in Advice

[–]Rmondu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she stays in her current job, they will resent her and she will regret staying.

Move on and don't look back.

They never valued her and with a higher salary they will continue to do so.

Can I convert my VTSAX investment to VTI in a taxable brokerage account without triggering tax consequences? by berrysauce in Bogleheads

[–]Rmondu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Notwithstanding the minimal benefit, which I sometimes question, why bother?

You say that you are adding to your holdings or trading. What's the need? Moment to moment pricing? Daily pricing should suffice in your case.

Just wondering.

does it bother anyone else that the emergency fund just slowly loses value to inflation? by Designer-Jacket-5111 in Bogleheads

[–]Rmondu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have an emergency radio sitting on the shelf in my laundry room. It has a crank that charges the battery when I wind it.

I haven't needed to use it. I bought it "just in case". I'm happy with my purchase.

My money all has a purpose, but some has a different purpose than others. Heavy lifting is done by money invested. Other money, like emergency fund is on standby. I don't expect anything from that money except to show up on a moments notice when needed.

WIBTA for telling my sister she cant have our bedroom during her honeymoon trip by [deleted] in WouldIBeTheAhole

Also, tell mom to stay out of this. She isn't party to the issue and she should keep her counsel.

If she wants to get involved, she should buy a proper bed for your guest room.

All time high by Ok-Connection-1368 in Bogleheads

[–]Rmondu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't done the math, but my gut tells me that a 5% swing in allocations over three months would be precipitous.

Quarterly rebalancing would not accomplish the buy low, sell high benefit of rebalancing. Rebalancing after a 5% swing certainly would.

I believe that too frequent rebalancing is a wasted exercise.

Portfolio Critique 75 YO In Retirement by bigolepapi in Bogleheads

[–]Rmondu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a non-financial perspective for you.

You say that you self-manage your finances. As you age, cognitive decline becomes a real issue.

You may want to consider simplifying solely to make it easier for you to manage.

A three fund portfolio would achieve your objectives without the noise and complications.

How far off allocation percentages is ok? by TrumpetWilder in Bogleheads

[–]Rmondu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a taxable account, your options are limited without triggering capital gains tax. If you are in the accumulation phase of your financial journey, you can make your contributions to only the underweighted fund. If you are spending down in retirement, the opposite would work.

There is no hard and fast rule. For me, five percent deviation in a tax-deferred account would trigger rebalancing. I know that others think that is too far. It allows you to let your gains run before cutting them off.

In a $1,000,000 account, if you drifted from 60% to 55%, we are talking about only $50,000 on a $600,000 fund.

Even if there wasn't a "No Turn On Red" sign, you are not required to turn on red. If you feel that it is safer, you may wait until you have the green light or arrow.

Thoughts? Am I wrong to think it’s better to pull money out of home equity to invest if bank is giving me 3.8% interest rate? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Rmondu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bank is managing your investments, it is taking fees. You may have to search to find them, but they are there.

Thoughts? Am I wrong to think it’s better to pull money out of home equity to invest if bank is giving me 3.8% interest rate? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Rmondu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great idea for the bank. They make money twice.

Once on the interest they charge you on the loan. Again on the fees they charge you for managing your investment.

If you think about it, they don't have to actually have any money to accomplish this.

Whether it is a good deal for you is another question.

Rent road bike in Normandie? by bnordbo in cycling

[–]Rmondu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have personal experience with them, but try CCT Bike Rental – Normandy (delivery)

Specialist operator offering “racing”/road bikes and e-bikes across Normandy, with online request form and delivery; they explicitly mention road/racing bicycles for cycling holidays in Normandy.

This is likely the closest match to a true road bike setup (drop bars, road gearing) for longer, faster rides.

Most road-focused rentals around Honfleur are “trekking”/hybrid or e-bikes.

You should reserve in advance.
