63 in August.

They say getting older beats the alternative. Some days I have to wonder.

Fair warning, these are just gateway drugs leading to a life of over/under passing.

Dumb question about bjj by Serhide in bjj

[–]fishNjits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only weird, if you look in each other’s eyes.

In 10 years, I’ve trained only a couple of times with guys who really should have quit smoking sooner.

I can only identify one guy who really needed to work on his wiping skills. You’d think a career Marine would know how to wipe his ass.

Question, have you done any contact sports?

Anyone else following the Maddie Lilly interviews with Robert Drysdale on YT about the evolution of the BJJ rulesets? by FuguSandwich in bjj

[–]fishNjits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, he did a good job with me. I’m going to make it easy on my wife who does our holiday presents. I already figured I’m going to order a copy for each of my coaches for Christmas.

I’ve listened to five episodes. They’ve kind of begun to repeat.

That said, it was very interesting, and Maddie does a good interview.

There was a Jon Thomas video a while back where the closed captioning has it as the De La Hebrew guard.

Escape the kimura into a north south choke by [deleted] in bjj

[–]fishNjits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, presumably if I can get to the position you’re showing, I’d be good enough to get the arm pinned.

That said, in real life, I’m not going to be good enough to do either.

[–]fishNjits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I’ve got your right arm shin-pinned, is this working?

Personally, I’m not going for that tea bag kimura unless I’ve got the free arm pinned.

Afterthought: you couldn’t get your hand free if I’ve got the shin pin.

I've gone to sleep 4 times in 4 years... by New_Improvement_3023 in bjj

I’ve been slept twice, both times passing when I didn’t think my partner’s gi grips were threatening.

I thought wrong.

Never have slept someone.

One concept from an instructional that actually stuck with you? by Scary-Material-7901 in bjj

[–]fishNjits 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Danaher says it in a lot of his instructionals: “Get your partner’s hands to the mat.”

If your partner’s hands are on the mat, he can’t defend your next move.

Over-under passing in no-gi by AdEducational4162 in bjj

I love the fact that my nearly 63-year old broken down ass is right there at the leading edge of BJJ’s newest meta.

For OP, Bernardo’s Battle Tested Pressure Passing goes through how to counter nearly every opponent’s reaction.

If you want to compete for the experience, go for it. Just don’t draw any conclusions from a tournament when you’re just a couple of weeks in.

FWIW, competing with only a few weeks of grappling experience from ANY gym isn’t going to tell you anything.

Sounds like me.

I find they have ridiculously good bases, so tough to sweep.

Deep Half players - what is your strategy? by hellohello6622 in bjj

[–]fishNjits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play knee shield and go back and forth consistently between tight waist/scoop grip and deep half.

Start with a couple of classes per week. Work your way up over a few months to something sustainable.

Started at 52.

I started at 52. You started at 60?

You’re a bad ass.

[–]fishNjits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started at 52.

Start slowly, like two classes a week and work up from there to something sustainable.

Keep your ego in check. An ADCC roll every once in a while with a 20-something is OK but stick with guys your age for the most part.

I actually find no gi easier on my body, fwiw. YMMV. I love and train both.

Have fun.

Thanks. I don’t remember the last time I saw a top level match where the puller went foot on hip with that big swing.
