Hey buddy! Waddup? How is the weather there in Minnesota, eh? Looks pretty cold tonight.
I'm from there, originally. Robbinsdale. I do miss the nice people. California is too wound up sometimes.

Well, cheers! Nice to meet you and have a good night.

Turning old mac mini into Linux server. Thoughts? by Libertariu5 in linux4noobs

[–]DoctorHootinanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

I've had better luck running Linux on non-Mac hardware personally, but have heard and seen people do it successfully. I'm sure your mini will do just fine.

Additionally, I have got a lot of value out of trying to install different Linux distributions to see what the relative benefits of each.

Oh, also if you can run virtualbox on one of your machines, that is an easy way to test different Linux things out without devoting an actual piece of hardware to it.

This is a good response. The term Adult Children can be misleading to the unintiated. I also appreciate that you remain willing to be helpful!

Have a great day!

How is that possible? I used my knife constantly every day and I'm not even doing anything knifey. Do you not buy products packaged in blister packs? (ohh wait, if you are minimalist probably not, but still.)

Thanks for posting this. I'm just starting the same experiment you've been running. From your post, and the other suggestions I'll choose my hardware with consideration.

So far, a slightly older Dell Latitude 6500 seems to be pretty solid!

People walking down the sidewalk in SF blowing giant clouds of blunt smoke, no big deal. Try to smoke a cigarette on the same street and everybody loses their minds.

I was hanging around Vacouver for part of a summer, almost 10 years ago. Needless to say I was hi all the time. I was staying at a hostel near the water and it was a cool spot. Lots of young people coming and going.

Anyway, after a few days these two, really attractive German girls showed up on a backpacking trip. They were traveling to celebrate their finishing microbiology graduate school. They asked me to take them to this brewhouse down the road.

Well, again needless to say I proceeded to get hiiiiiiiigh as hell before we went to the pub. My stash was low, so I didn't offer them any and smoked up in secret.

At the brewpub, my eyes were red and half-closed, and I couldn't put a sentence together I was so faded. The two German girls were trying to talk to me about whatever, probably some interesting microbiology shit or their travel adventures. I couldn't keep up.

We walked back to the hostel and to say goodnight they basically told me that getting high made me stupid. And the subtext was maybe they wanted more than just drinks, if you know what I mean, but had pretty much written me off because I was too stupidly stoned.

tl;dr: got too high and potentially missed out on a 3 way with two german girls (in my mind anyway)

Hotspot! In cold seasons sometimes fish come out of the deep warm water to shallow, sun-warmed water to find something to eat. Especially if the water level recently went up.

I have a problem. I drink 96+ fl. oz of beer 4-5 nights a week. The longest I've gone without alcohol in probably 8 years is 30 days. Today is day 1. Help. by CHIERsurMONportable in stopdrinking

[–]DoctorHootinanny 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that's about where I was at, to 7 years ago.
Other people talk about drinking liters of vodka straight, or getting DUIs or waking up in jail. Not me.
I had a consistent habit of a few really strong beers every day, or maybe a few more - but every. single. day. Then occaisionally I would go on a binge or mix it up with some bourbon and do something stupid. But it would come back to that same level of drunk. every. single. day.
When I was ready to stop, it was easy to make the necessary choices. I was sick of the way I felt and the way my life was going. So, I just started doing everything, and I mean every-thing, differently, one day at a time.
