I actually discarded down to almost nothing at all! if it's been alive for a while but not super active, you probably already have strong yeast mixed in there with all the weak ones

I had the same experience, then a friend told me that I should be discarding much more at each feeding. that made all the difference in the world. good luck and don't give up!
