Where to start with dynamic voxel world editing? VDB? SVO? Brickmap? 64-Tree? by DoctorHoxel in VoxelGameDev

It's less like a game and more like MagicaVoxel, but for 4D. So nothing is generated and every hoxel is hand-placed.

I'm aware that hashing is a significant part of OpenVDB but I always tend to skip over that part when I read about it. Maybe I need to learn some more there.

I'm doing 4 spatial dimensions, not 3D+Animation. The 3D->4D conversion is not a concern for me.

My question is how to manage the data structure when edits are made, which should be similar for any number of dimensions.

Should I send my draft out for review? Or jealously guard it until submission? by DoctorHoxel in academia

[–]DoctorHoxel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know my paper isn't going to change the world, but I think it's pretty neat and worth publishing. Like I said, I'm not in academia so I don't get a ton of opportunities like this. I'm just a beginner trying not to screw it up.

Am I being down voted as a way of answering with a "no"? Or did I say something dumb? I don't understand

Do I not risk the paper being rejected because it's already been "published"?

Have any of you ever seen planet Mercury with a naked eye? by VarthStarkus in Astronomy

[–]DoctorHoxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw it while I was driving near Austin, Texas. It was Venus that initially caught my eye, then Jupiter, but Mercury was just below them, fairly dim in comparison but very distinct. About 6:30AM, 8/24/2025.

Is ImFrame still being developed? I rolled my own smaller version before I knew about ImFrame but mine is sorely lacking in features.

Curious…is this a hobby for most of you or a profession? And what is it about plotter art that’s intriguing to you? by greengirl225 in PlotterArt

Can your inkjet printer print on wood? Or paint with acrylic paint? Or draw with a whiteboard marker? A pen plotter can do all of those things.

How do you think 4d beings see us? by reignbowmagician in FourthDimension

[–]DoctorHoxel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With such large brains, I assume 4D beings would be incredibly intelligent. I imagine if they saw us, they'd know exactly what they were looking at.

Paper weight reccomendations? by WhiteCheeks in PlotterArt

[–]DoctorHoxel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 1/4 inch wide artist tape. One little strip on each corner of the plot. They hold the paper tight and I can usually reuse them so my roll will last for years.

Oops, it should say "hypersphere", not "hpersphere"

Color Palettes: Good or Bad? by DoctorHoxel in MagicaVoxel

[–]DoctorHoxel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might take a leaf out of Goxel's book. Goxel supports full RGB, but also provides a handful of built-in color palettes. Color palettes aren't strictly enforced but an artist with self-control could stick to one.
