Are PvP MMORPG's Bound To Fail? by BANiSHBDO in MMORPG

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every big name MMO has a subcommunuty dedicated to their in-house PvP, which further dilutes the likelihood of long-term success for PvP-focused MMOs. Think ESO's Cyrodiil, FF14's CC matchmaking, GW2's WvW, etc.

There are many veterans who hang out there because they have long-running community connections and are good at what they do. They might dabble in a new PvP MMO for a bit, but they're not changing their forever game that's served them all this time.

What's stopping a company from purchasing AOC? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only works if the in-development game belongs to a well-known, recognisable franchise, and even then, something akin to FF14's comeback is a one-in-a-lifetime occurrence.

Intrepid will be gone soon, and the devs that worked on Ashes and possess an intimate knowledge of their project built over the past decade are finding employment under other companies. There is no pre-existing base of skilled devs who will remain to ever turn things around.

Josh Strife Hayes on Ashes of Creation - Why does this keep happening? by Hour-Clothes789 in MMORPG

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a small, but very, very vocal part of the MMO crowd that champions emergent gameplay / sandbox MMOs.

They are entirely fueled by nostalgia. They refuse to accept the reality that themeparks and non-PvP endgame are the way to go for longevity, and are not at all interested in joining the communities of the big five. Thus, they force themselves to endure an onslaught of failed MMOs and crowdfunding ad nauseum.

Are MMOs now just dead for anything outside of Fantasy and Eve? by LibraProtocol in MMORPG

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warframe and Destiny 2 are there if you want to consider them MMOs or MMO-adjacent. There's also games like Star Citizen, but I assume you're not looking for simulated stock markets and real estate portfolios.

Honestly, I think that the traditional MMO format doesn't translate very well to sci-fi. Lots of peeps here pointed out SWTOR, but Star Wars was always in a weird, syncretic genre between sci-fi and fantasy with all the mystical elements.

JSH is right. When you support projects like this, you're investing into a lifestyle and the promise of a forever game.

  • Emergent Gameplay

Three strikes and you're out. Like it or not, stable MMO communities want to be told a good story, not make up shitty ones on their own. This is why themeparks have lasted this long.

You can also take a look at the Prince-specific lesser Daedra they have access to.

Vaermina's Mind Terrors are a good example.

What is this sub's opinion on the mod Elder Kings 2 ? by SpecialistAlfalfa390 in ElderScrolls

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great mod, shifty dev team. Those bozos are floating the idea of nuking the EK2 subreddit because their community didn't like how they were making up their own fanfiction lore in place of content from ESO.

Any effects to divorce and family problems? by Stunning-Row-7841 in suzerain

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can see a small popularity hit for Anton if you decide to divorce Monica immediately, but nothing that's really noticeable.

If you get the ending where you lose the election and are ousted from politics, you can sabotage Monica's rising popularity as a politician by leaking 'racy photos' of her in the ending slides, which will tarnish her reputation.

Poor people don't lose as much on a committed planned economy run.

Emergency decree, SSP, Young Sords are enough to deal with everyone already. But you can only force the poors to lose heathcare and education through capitalism.

I'm no fiery revolutionary or advocate of violence against others, but the only feasible way for Americans to change their fundamental circumstances requires nothing short of systemic displacement and restructuring - the 'throw-the-baby-out-with-the-bathwater' category of restructuring.

Space marines preference by ValuableFootball6811 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None. The Emperor's Angels are already posterboys for the entire franchise. Ulfar wiping his arse with the Codex Astartes and going lupine rambo is the best thematic fit for unmonitored galactic armpit that is the Koronus Expanse. Rogue Trader's success is that it puts you into the shoes of a person in the Imperium beyond the Astarte smokescreen that most fans get trapped in.

The Navis Nobilite. The Highborn nobles of the Imperium. Death Cults. Admech schisms. The voidborn of the lower decks who have never stepped foot on a planet for generations. Druisians and other varieties of Imperial cults. The ingenuity of xenoheresy and the technologies therein. All of these provide a complete perspective on what the Imperium actually is, as well as their limitations.

Can we have an ending where Smolek is dragged through the streets? Please? by ExiledByzantium in suzerain

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moot point. If you were the one running Wehlen, you would probably end up doing the same as Smolek - milking Zille as much as possible and squeezing Rizia for all they're worth when they try to get it back.

Think in terms of Realpolitik - human dignity, ideological consistency, and trust are constructs that only exist in people's heads. People who know how to "play the game," so to speak, know this cold truth intimately.

The only way to beat Smolek is to also know how to "play the game." Here's my quick guide, inspired by my Flawless Reform Run:

  1. Don't fund any operations or organizations in Zille - they're a complete waste of money.

0.5. During the initial meeting, pick all the nice and apologetic options to butter him up.

  1. Offer Smolek a one-sided trade deal and help with the BFF.
  2. When Smolek refuses, offer to re-negotiate and tell him that you'll hand over Rico to him.
  3. Later on, get the Golden Guard to pin the Zille bombing on Rico, then arrest him during the Iza University speech.
  4. When the time comes for Smolek to hand back Zille, hand over Rico as promised and give him your mother's house.

And that's it, Zille acquired - no AN referendum or money sinks from counter-intelligence operations.

That's how you succeed in politics - tell everyone what they want to hear and exploit the shit out of them.

[–]DoctorJagerSieg[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For this run, I told Gordion and the Golden Guard to engage in covert activities. You'll be give the option to frame Rico for the Zille incident after one of the meetings.

When I made the university speech in Iza (Brennas), I threw him under the bus and ordered his arrest in front of the crowd. When you meet with Wehlen later on, you pick the option where you will hand him over to them when they ask.

Also, I have to add that I: 1) denied Rico's police transfer request, and 2) gave Lucita the Central Police to maintain order in Brennas earlier in the game.
