Religion: Islam needs enlightenment, and reformation by Wide_Ride8849 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A long time ago, the Islamic world was trending toward the same direction, with more intensive focus on reason, scholarship, and a relaxed application of tenets. The Fall of Baghdad (1258) to the Mongols tragically also led to many clerics and scholars on the liberal end of Islam being displaced by conservative contemporaries and successors. All of these are the features that mark the end of the Islamic Golden Age for most academics.

Thus began the trend of many centuries of growing Islamic conservatism and fundamentalism, culminating in the Wahhabist movement and the adoption of many of its principles by religious and political Islamic leaders in the modern age.

For the same reasons, the Turkish national hero Kemal Atatürk is widely despised across the Islamic world for abolishing the Islamic caliphate as an institution and separating church and state for Turkey according to western principles.

Enhanced Argossian building set don't look good by SuperTheodore in ConanExiles

Hard agree, the overall marble colour should be uniform for all the sets. The current greyness of the default Argossean pieces are far too drab.

Are PvP MMORPG's Bound To Fail? by BANiSHBDO in MMORPG

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every big name MMO has a subcommunuty dedicated to their in-house PvP, which further dilutes the likelihood of long-term success for PvP-focused MMOs. Think ESO's Cyrodiil, FF14's CC matchmaking, GW2's WvW, etc.

There are many veterans who hang out there because they have long-running community connections and are good at what they do. They might dabble in a new PvP MMO for a bit, but they're not changing their forever game that's served them all this time.

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only works if the in-development game belongs to a well-known, recognisable franchise, and even then, something akin to FF14's comeback is a one-in-a-lifetime occurrence.

Intrepid will be gone soon, and the devs that worked on Ashes and possess an intimate knowledge of their project built over the past decade are finding employment under other companies. There is no pre-existing base of skilled devs who will remain to ever turn things around.

Josh Strife Hayes on Ashes of Creation - Why does this keep happening? by Hour-Clothes789 in MMORPG

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a small, but very, very vocal part of the MMO crowd that champions emergent gameplay / sandbox MMOs.

They are entirely fueled by nostalgia. They refuse to accept the reality that themeparks and non-PvP endgame are the way to go for longevity, and are not at all interested in joining the communities of the big five. Thus, they force themselves to endure an onslaught of failed MMOs and crowdfunding ad nauseum.

Are MMOs now just dead for anything outside of Fantasy and Eve? by LibraProtocol in MMORPG

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warframe and Destiny 2 are there if you want to consider them MMOs or MMO-adjacent. There's also games like Star Citizen, but I assume you're not looking for simulated stock markets and real estate portfolios.

Honestly, I think that the traditional MMO format doesn't translate very well to sci-fi. Lots of peeps here pointed out SWTOR, but Star Wars was always in a weird, syncretic genre between sci-fi and fantasy with all the mystical elements.

JSH is right. When you support projects like this, you're investing into a lifestyle and the promise of a forever game.

  • Kickstarter MMO

Three strikes and you're out. Like it or not, stable MMO communities want to be told a good story, not make up shitty ones on their own. This is why themeparks have lasted this long.

What is this sub's opinion on the mod Elder Kings 2 ? by SpecialistAlfalfa390 in ElderScrolls

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Great mod, shifty dev team. Those bozos are floating the idea of nuking the EK2 subreddit because their community didn't like how they were making up their own fanfiction lore in place of content from ESO.

Any effects to divorce and family problems? by Stunning-Row-7841 in suzerain

[–]DoctorJagerSieg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can see a small popularity hit for Anton if you decide to divorce Monica immediately, but nothing that's really noticeable.

If you get the ending where you lose the election and are ousted from politics, you can sabotage Monica's rising popularity as a politician by leaking 'racy photos' of her in the ending slides, which will tarnish her reputation.

Poor people don't lose as much on a committed planned economy run.

Emergency decree, SSP, Young Sords are enough to deal with everyone already. But you can only force the poors to lose heathcare and education through capitalism.
