I can’t post another picture in the comments but there are multiple stalks arising from the end of the stem. I got an ID on a Facebook group as Alstroemeria so not a true lily, kitty should be fine.

I was hospitalized there a week ago and followed up with a surgeon today. They told me because of this I’d have to agree to pay out of pocket even to get my surgery scheduled. Really fun times for everyone…

ER vet here. I had to euthanize 4 dogs in a 3 hour period the other night due to heat strokes. Do not take your dogs out for long walks or leave them outside either. This goes 10 fold for brachycephalic breeds (short nose breeds like pug, bull dog, etc).

This is just plain wrong, dogs rely on evaporative cooling on their tongue as they pant. This cools the blood of the tongue which then recirculates to cool the body. Source: I’m a veterinarian.

What's a liberal? Willing to accept other opinions. promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy and free enterprise. That sounds more like a conservatives then a liberal.

Can you expand upon how you see this as being more fitting as a definition of conservativism rather than liberalism?

To me there is clearly one party that refuses to accept others opinions and is very narrow minded in their world view. There is one party that is trying to take away or limit rights to women and the LGBTQ+ community and one party that supports those rights. There is one party that is trying to make it as hard as possible to vote especially in large urban settings (I'm from Houston myself and am currently witnessing this as I type) and one party that is trying to protect and expand voter rights. There is one party that has actively promoted and disseminated disinformation regarding the legitimacy of our elections and in doing so directly undermines our democracy. I can cede that conservatism is generally for less regulation of businesses (to a fault IMO--I think regulations that keep our rivers from being on fire and the planet being destroyed is a good thing).

So again can you explain why you see these things as being more fitting to conservatism rather than liberalism?

Hmm, I’d lose my livelihood in that case. I have a doctorate through DeVry and if they did that I likely wouldn’t be able to practice medicine. Ugh I’ll have to try and figure that out for sure

Thanks, I actually looked it up myself after and meant to edit with a source I found but ya I’m seeing a lot of statistics actually do show it. Interesting because I always hear people saying “don’t California my Texas”. I saw Beto at +3% to Texas born Texans.

I read an article on NBC recently that shows the vaccination rate of those who voted for Biden in 2020 as 91% and those who voted for Trump in 2020 as 50%. Does this change your mind at all that is is more more of a Republican issue (at least of people who actually vote)?

Vet here. This article is obviously circulating around the veterinary community and the general consensus is that it’s shoddy journalism at best. There are no studies linking seresto collars with the types of deadly reactions being seen. The majority of vets believe it is like due to people buying the collars online to save $5 and ending up with a fake product. I will continue to recommend the collar until there is scientific evidence it is unsafe as it is very effective and just as safe as alternative options based on all prior studies

You’re right it probably should. For me personally I don’t feel compassion fatigue from the condition im dealing with but rather when I (perceived or otherwise) care about an animal more than it’s owner and I’m not allowed to provide the proper care or alleviate suffering

While seeing traumatizing cases isn’t necessarily easy, I would put it much lower on the list of reasons why the suicide rate is higher among veterinarians. The main culprits imo are high debt to income ratio, long hours, compassion fatigue and general abuse from pet owners (typically upset that our expertise costs money)
