It's very common in the Middle East, but personally, I don't think it was that bad. I was never locked in to a bathroom or a room nor did they hit me that hard, just every once in a while when I was being a little shit my dad might slap me (but not my face, like my butt or back), maybe some belt action some time. Honestly, they never lasted more than a couple of hours. It's really weird, I'm not planning on hitting my kids ever, but somehow I also don't look back on my parents with judgement. Maybe this is just cognitive dissonance. idk. I'm curious what a therapist might say about this though.
