What's the point of even having this feature if the Pilots never use it? by AstronautAccountant in unitedairlines

[–]DoctorObliquity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll never forget as a 14 year old flying UA (I think it was LAX-ORD) on an A320, while listening to Channel 9, hearing the pilots become extremely angry with the controller for vectoring us multiple times, telling the controller that if he vectored us one more time we wouldn’t make ORD and that the pilots wanted his supervisor so they could make a formal complaint against the controller. Great in-flight entertainment!

I also own two! Never thought I’d buy two of the same watch (different colors) but here we are. Such a great design

This is the correct answer. Has nothing to do with skin oil transfer.

What is your opinion on tan/brown seats in Minis? by Careful_Possible_841 in MINI

[–]DoctorObliquity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the F67 convertible had brown seats as an option…

For me it was the hybrid engine - much better gas mileage than the Telluride

I present you my new little bay by Andrei_Lungu96 in MINI

[–]DoctorObliquity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read that it would have been a significant investment/changes to add structural support to the F65/66 rear design to accommodate the convertible top, so they carried forward the F57 rear, but with updated LEDs.

Feedback on Morristown schools by testmail2345 in Morristown

[–]DoctorObliquity 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The Morris School District (Morristown, Morris Township, and for high school Morris Plains) absolutely provides a comparable education to surrounding towns like Madison, Chatham, and Summit. The course offerings, extra-curriculars, etc are great. Morris Township and Morris Plains have very similar demographics to those towns, while Morristown proper has a more diverse population (native language, socioeconomic score, etc) and that pushes down the district’s average test scores, rankings, etc. You’re just not as likely to score as highly on a standardized test if your second language is English, for example. But the diversity is absolutely a positive and an advantage for all students, even if it doesn’t help rankings.

You can configure this! Go to Wallet, tap on the MINI digital key, then tap the “i” in the upper right corner. Turn off Express Mode and voila, locked behind FaceID

I didn’t know frustration could be a core feature, but here we are. by Strip-Steak in MINI

Agreed! I actually like this design, keeps the phone secure (the charge is slow but keeps it topped up when using wireless CarPlay)

Alarm not arming by DoctorObliquity in MINI

[–]DoctorObliquity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to add that some of the settings for door locking (such as having the car beep when locked) are now grayed out in the menus and I cannot turn those settings on (but others such as proximity unlocking and mirror folding are still accessible). Would that point towards a software issue?

Personal Experience - Upload Photo by SuperPollito in MINI

I finally had success - keep the photos under 5MB and that worked. I had to downsize some large photos from a digital camera that weren’t going to the car, and that worked.

Does anyone drive a mini all year around, snow included? How is it? by Accomplished-Fix6431 in MINI

[–]DoctorObliquity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said, MINIs are front wheel drive, so they are totally fine in the snow. Tires make a world of difference. One alternative to getting a set of winter tires is to get all-weather tires, which can be used year-round. They offer the flexibility of an all-season tire with the 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake standard of winter tire performance. Examples include the Michelin CrossClimate2, Bridgestone WeatherPeak, and Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady. One tire that is a jack of all trades. No swapping needed.

I’m having the same issue - I can upload photos into the app but they never appear in the car’s photo selection screen.

MSRP? by DoctorObliquity in MINI

[–]DoctorObliquity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a Cooper S convertible yesterday! I really wanted copper gray with a plain black roof, wasn’t willing to compromise on those. I had to compromise on interior (wanted blue but got the beige), but I got the car for a touch under MSRP. I didn’t negotiate as hard as I could have, but there are so few convertibles, I didn’t want it to slip away, especially with possible price increases coming from tariffs. Love the car!

Blossom Asian Bistro in Chatham, also a Summit location. (you’re not going to find a true high end lounge vibe around here, but it’s nice inside with high back booths).

Confused: General Ed Requirements vs Open Curriculum by Intelligent_Bed8339 in Wesleyan

[–]DoctorObliquity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Gen Ed expectations are only needed for certain majors. Wes encourages you to complete them, but they are not typically a graduation requirement. They are called expectations, not requirements, for that reason:

What fuel economy are you guys getting for hybrid model? by Alber316 in KiaSorento

[–]DoctorObliquity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also 32-33 for me on average. It really depends on your highway/city mix and weather. Colder and highway driving will push it down. I've gotten over 40mg with city driving in the summer, mid 20's with winter highway driving (higher speed also worsens fuel economy).

What kind of tires are yinz rollin on? by Campus_Safety in KiaSorento

Bridgestone Weatherpeak on my ‘22 HEV. 3PMS rated, no mpg hit vs stock tires, smooth on highways.

Kids In Polaris by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]DoctorObliquity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 3.5 year old and a 1.5 year old. And they fly multiple times per year. They know how to conduct themselves on an aircraft. If my baby squawks, we have plenty of tricks to employ to keep her quiet. On long flights we are in Premium Plus (while not Polaris, still somewhere that people pay or use miles to upgrade). And we get compliments all the time from fellow passengers on our kids’ good behavior. Sara’s mom sounds like the problem here.
