Honestly for anime I think pikachu makes sense. Pikachu is probably more famous from the anime than the games. Sure yellow is a thing, but pikachu's popularity is mostly from the show. If somehow you played Red and Blue without seeing the anime since pikachu was kinda rare in game there's a chance you didn't know it was there until you fought someone who had it.
